That is a great gun! If you are wanting the quintessential S&W revolver a 64 or model 10 is it.

I agree... I have a 64-5 and it sees use every weekend at the range. These go very fast in my neck of the woods.... Mine will be passed down. My son and grandson really enjoy shooting it

I have 2 of the 64-3, one with pinned barrel and one without. I kicked them a lot.

Great truck, tackle box, 'fridge top guns. Picked up a 64-3 from AIM surplus a couple years back. A favorite, especially after I installed a old set of Herretts I had in the grip box.

You have a fine example of Smith & Wesson's art and functionality from the heyday of the revolver.

Sorry for not responding sooner, I got side tracked. I actually got this revolver after my mom passed away 2 weeks ago. It was my stepdads (he's been gone for 20 years). Interesting to me is that this one has the S&W logo on the right sideplate and not on the left side of the frame. I've been looking around online and that seems funny to me as most I see have the S&W logo on the left side of the frame. Anyone have information as to what S&W's practice was around 1981...?
BTW, I did just order the SCSW 4th from Amazon.
I've been cleaning it up...from total disassembly. No rust anywhere...looks real clean beyond fuzz and dust. Barrel shows little wear although the grips are pretty worn out.
I'll try to post some pics of it's nuances.
Thanks all.

Rogue?
Not sure on that one. I've got a Model 64-3 put aside at my dealer pending a permit. It has the S&W Logo on the Frame and not the side plate. This particular Model 64 was previously owned by Brinks Security here in Australia.
Have you got some photos you can post?

Right around 1981-1982, when S&W stopped pinning barrels and recessing magnum cylinders, the logo was moved from the side plate to the other side of the frame. Yours was right at that time period so it must have been made right before the move.
Sorry about your mom.

Model 64
Mine is an ex Ludlow MA PD duty gun. Had the spa treatment to echo factory Combat Revolver Package. Great gun. Grasshorn stag grips but incorrect grip adapter shown.

One from 1977 has been a favorite of mine. Was pretty rough when I got it but cleaned up nicely.

Now my biggest dilemma is the grips (stocks). I think I will stash the original wood because it's already kind of rough and do some replacements....perhaps new ones just like the originals. I dunno....ivory/faux always looked good on a shiny stainless........

Here's mine, a Boston PD that I swapped out the trigger and hammer for cased combats.
This one was given to me by my eye doctor so I certainly can't complain about the cost...
