I have been thinking about a 65 police trade in to tinker with. I am open to other models as well. I have been able to find them in stock at one dealer but would sure like to find a few more options. Is there any particular dealers that have good police trade in S&W revolvers in or that regularly get them in? I have only been looking for a few days so I didnt want to overlook something you guys know about.
Thanks,
Dana

Usually the police trade-ins originate with a distributor who sells what the guns were traded for. Usually, a deal is made to allow current LE employees to purchase the “to be traded” guns for a specific price. The remainder go to the distributor who markets them to a dealer and so forth. Of course, every time a used gun is marketed, the price goes up… As one of my jobs in my past LE profession, I orchestrated these deals on several occasions. I would tend to believe that most revolvers has long since been traded since the auto’s have taken over the LE profession. You may find some correctional institutions or armored car companies that still have revolvers. The distributor offer prices are insanely low but in a large order and when a manufacturer gets involved - sometimes a one for one (or close) is struck just to get their guns in the field. You would not believe the deals I was forced to make…

Several distributors have had ex-PD revolvers this year and the nice ones sell out in hours or days. Watch the Forum or the S&W groups on Facebook for when they become available.

Guns.com had a big batch of M65s and M64s lately. Some were apparently marked as imports, others apparently had the departments initials stamped, some we unmarked.

I got a 65, it is unmarked. Other than a slight, easy to fix timing issue its in nice shape.

They still list 65- 5s and 6s at $499.99.

Centerfire Systems had some 64s and 65s but seem to be out of stock. They do have some barrel-less M10s which we re-imported. I picked up a M65 from Centerfire Systems. It was a bit more money that from guns.com and also not in as nice shape.

Try them

Sportsmans Warehouse has had some periodically. ‘Seen 65’s and similar over the past few years. I just bought a 3” 65-3 in need of help from the Rochester NY store. They still had one left last week. Prices okay.
