Default Gun Show Find - Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Hello,
Its been awhile since I've posted any new additions. I retired at end of 2021 and started having health issues within three weeks. It took a while but finally back up and running. These S&W's have held up much gooder than me and my anglish.
This past Saturday I was set up at AGCA Show in Hoover, AL. I ran across these two (M-37 No Dash & M36-3 Lady Smith) and couldn't/didn't passem up.
Thanks for letting me share.
God Bless,
Ray

PS: Doctors say eat right and exercise for healthy life. May I add "and don't retire". Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yes do not retire. I have had various health problems since I retired and even before I retired. I would have preferred dying on duty than off duty. Once your a cop for any length of time you are always a Cop. By the way nice Revolvers

Retiring to do nothing, or almost nothing, is a very bad idea. Some studies show that one hastens their own demise by not keeping busy, using your mind, and the risk of depression increases tremendously.

It's not just about keeping active; it's about keeping interested.

I like the Model 37 in nickel. It looks better than my Model 37 in blue with the powder coated black frame.

There's nothing wrong with your anglish that spell check won't cure.

In retirement you are doing what I do. Keep up your tables at AGCA and buy and sell old S&Ws. The money's nothing but a thang (sp.). For me it's the friendship/comradery that keeps me coming back. After my second chemo infusion I have a show this weekend. Don't know if I'll make it but I'm gonna try like HECK.

Keep on pushing. It's good for you.

I'm right there with you brother. I'm 70 and retired from law enforcement in 2016, after 35 years at work. I, as you are, am dealing with some health issues, including battling depression for years, but I refuse to give up and staying busy is the key. Over the past 50 years of gun collecting, I have had literally hundreds of different firearms but at the present, I have only 8 (being retired and on a fixed income will do that to you!). I'm not complaining. It has been a very fun hobby and although my buying and swapping days are over, I still enjoy reading about them and being on many other forums like this one. As the famous philosopher Broadway Joe Namath once said: "it's not how you start, but how you finish." Very nice pair of Smiths. Thanks for showing. Good health to you and your family for many years to come.

Nice J frames,
I retired early with 100% no regrets, loved the work but hated the dept politics,
at one point we had two of the busiest stations in the USA after we cut manning from 100 to 80 (minimum manning) , then they took over two small volunteer stations and an entire EMS system with existing staffing, gone were the days of meals together, fellowship and occasionally sleeping through the night.
The city took an adversarial position of us against you for contrac bargaining and although they recognized we were the busiest dept in the county with a 300% productivity rate they vowed to keep our pay at 65% of the county fds avg.
Moral was low, burnout was high and rookies started leaving for other debts after 1 year.
If you love your job and it's fun don't retire,
But if u get to the point where you feel every year you stay is taking 2 years life expectancy it's time to retire.
Trick is to not outlive your pension but also not to die the day after u retire in which case your pension is worth zero.

Sorry about the rant and glad you are doing better brother.

Sorry to hear about your health issues, hope you get better.

I think it's important to have something engaging to do after retirement. I volunteer 20 hours a week at the local museum, teach NRA classes 26 weeks a year, create firearms videos (75 on line), study Western history, lift weights and ride a bicycle. Don't have time for health issues or to worry about getting old. I'm 79.

Default Retired and no extra time

I retired from my day job at a NASA station in Ohio after a heart attack in 2009 and I do not see how I had time to work! I now accomplish tasks around the house! I am an octogenarian and usually have time for a short afternoon nap!

Plant and tend the garden and fruit trees in the back ground.

Product this from the apples on the trees

Reduce this to firewood for the winter fire in the wood burner.

That M37 looks like a piece of art; you got it all shiny, etc.; I hope you shoot it once in a while.
I couldn't wait to retire. Now, my 17 years at the PGH Public Schools was like semi-retirement compared to working for some idiot contractor, but it was time to go. Even though keeping all the refrigeration in the schools working for the safety of our children was reward enough, the way things were being run was reason enough to leave. Some of the lunch ladies were very pleasant to be around...no hairy moles or mustaches! There's plenty to do around the house for Angel & me!

Hello again,
Thanks for the encouraging words and sharing retirement experiences.
I was fortunate enough to work for a family owned distribution business for 48 years. Working for 3 generations of family members was exciting and challenging. Great times!
Three weeks into retirement I came down with Covid combined with pneumonia. Soon after I was diagnosed with Myasthenias Gravis. It's a muscle/nerve disorder. The Good Lord and medication has put me back to abnormal.
I'm now in the process of getting rid of "Stuff" gathered over the years. This disorder has given me a wonderful new perspective on "Things".
God Bless,
Ray

Nothing wrong with retirement, that's why God invented gun ranges, reloading stuff, gardens, grandkids and golf courses.

Put a 78 on the local golf course just today, even with a wobbly, rebuilt knee.

When you retire, just keep a a busy agenda. Build in a routine of light exercise at least 3 times a week, and take a walk daily, a mile or more if you can, and drink plenty of water.

Default Keep your retirement busy.

I retired at 65, moved from Florida to Colorado. Started mountain climbing and hiking, climbed first of five 14ers at 70. Hunted elk, deer, and pronghorns.
I have been fortunate to have very few health issues for 82 years. But at 82 had several hospitalizations that have me struggling to get healthy again. I'm on the mend again still enjoy shooting and my gun interests. One of my other likes is reading. Stay as active as you can and stay involved in life. Good health to you and yours.

Nice.

I went to the same AGCA show that weekend. Only bought an OEM magazine for a High Standard Model 102 Supermatic Tournament (slant grip) I inherited about 30 years ago. Those are kind of hard to find loose, for a decent price. Paid $50, much less than eBay or Gunbroker.

I did buy a nice WW2 Victory model at the AGCA show last July.

Wanted to comment on your purchase, great buy. As for retiring and doing what I wanted to do turned into my wife retiring year later and baby sitting twin grandsons for four years and then baby sitting another grandson. Watched them until first grade. Then another showed up January 2022, and just last month same daughter said next April she would have number four.So yeah keep working. I get to take three grandsons target shooting some. I am crazy about all our grandkids all seven so far. HaHa.

After 40+years as a carpenter I was faced with an open heart surgery and a chance to retire early. I decided that living means more than work. Learn to love yourself more than your job.

I disagree.

If you can not back up other officers what good are you? We had a gentleman who was 60+ and if you had a fight he will not show up. He would spend most of the Shift in the Locker Room smoking cigarettes. When he eventually had his heart attack he was lying on the bench in the Locker Room.

We had another old time gentleman who would disappear for 7 1/2 hours every shift. But he would regale the youngsters with tales of chasing gangsters. But apparently he never caught anyone. A Sergeant once said, that guy had not arrested anybody in 20+ years.

Like Clint said, a man got to know his limitations.

Agreed! Retired on duty are useless.

Sweet revolvers.

On the Police Department if you die less than ten years after you retire the City wins. (the first ten years is 'your' contributions to the Retirement Plan) If you live pass the tenth anniversary year of your retirement you win.
