Cleanest Model 10 I've ever had came home today - and it's a snub :)
Like many of us, I am a great admirer of the M&P Hand Ejector .38, later of course known as the Model 10. Over the years I've had many, ranging from a 1914 production example w/6" barrel that still handled low-charge wadcutters well and grouped tightly in stock form, to multiple police trade-ins and a smattering of Victory models as well.
As many of us wheelgun guys know, however, Mod. 10s are - or used to be - as common as dirt in pawn shops, classifieds, the used counter, and so on. S&W I believe still makes their 'Classic' version with the lock, but I only collect pre-lock revolvers personally. In short, at one point or another all of my 10s and variations have been traded towards other - usually more uncommon - pieces to add to the collection. Nowadays, of course, very clean Mod. 10s and pre-10s are harder to find - so this one has me quite pleased.
Today I managed to snag one I've been looking for a long time, and I'm thinking it may have to stay in the collection for a while.
This Mod. 10-5 snubnose with roundbutt is as-shipped according to factory label (please click link for extensive pic album) - box has an era-correct small-type font date of 3/8/73, so I am guessing this one dates to 72-73 for shipment. Serial S/N D5678XX is correct throughout incl. stocks and what seems to be correct, untampered label.
The bluing is almost immaculate - the faintest hint of a turn line can be seen if under high light and at an angle. Four small freckles can be seen on the left side of the frame above the trigger when in high resolution, but are difficult to see with the eye.
The older gent I acquired it from stated he had fired two cylinders, cleaned it, reloaded it, and put it in his nightstand in a handkerchief for years. Seems to have worked well!
Easily my own personal 'best' in years of M&P/pre-10s/10s & Victory models - no manual, but otherwise an absolute sweetheart for the collection in my personal opinion. May letter this one just for fun.

I have had a lot of Smith and Wesson revolvers since the 1950's. IF I had to choose only one center fire it would be a Model 10. I think that is their flagship and my favorite.

That's one fine pick-up !! You make me want to try for a nice snub 38 to aquire.
I can justify it for collecting and a useful carry piece to have on-hand.
Very nice addition and makes me jealous of your luck..

That’s a great looking model 10-5. My 10-5 square butt has a lot of ugly spots on it, but I bought it to carry and shoot. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

Mine was always pristine but it's seen some things in the recent meantime so it's not NIB, but it's been with me for over 40 years and ain't goin' nowhar soon!
It could be a 10-7 - I ain't looked at it for awhile donchano!

Thanks for the kind words fellas - next range day I'll drop a few cowboy wadcutters through and report back, but that'll likely be about it for this one - feel like it's earned it's spot in the display case for 364 of the year.

I'd love to find a 10 or 64, round-butt snub sometime. This one is quite the looker - congratulations!

Congrats! as I have stated before I need to pick up the pace on a snubbie. I do have a 4" and 6" model 10 from 1926 and 1927. They look like the day they were made but no box or papers. I always thought a 4" barrel was a short barrel.
