Who likes nickel S&W's??
I was asked to sell a few S&W's and some rifles for a local collector.
I only own one nickel S&W currently and it's an unfired 3.5" 27-2 that was owned by a fellow SWCA friend and it will stay in my collection for the long term.
These two are 6.5" and 8-3/8" 29-2’s that are in excellent condition and it appears that the 8-3/8" has been factory fired only.
The 6.5" has some very minor handling marks and a couple of pin-prick marks in the nickel at the top of the backstrap near the hammer.
The 8-3/8", which appears only factory fired, has some minor finish issues mainly under the stocks.....probably from improper storage is my guess.
The smooth target stocks are spectacular on both guns.....but no paperwork is included.
I am thinking of making an offer on BOTH of these for myself but I am wondering what you folks might think of a "Fair" value?
I see some completed auctions for similar condition nickel S&W's, but auction prices can be all over the map.

I’m very fond of Smith’s classic nickel finish. I don’t think Smith does it anymore.
Are these two both -2’s?
To me, nickel-2’s are worth a premium: as much as $100 for the 6” and $50 for the 8” over comparable blue guns. The lower premium for the 8” is largely because I have no use for an 8”.
The condition of the nickel finish is an issue. I’d discount them just as I would blue guns with comparable finish problems.

I've always preferred blued guns, but I'm not above grabbing a nice nickel model when I find one. I only have two nickel guns, a M29-2 commemorative and a M25-5.

I would say $1500-$1800 each depending on the amount of finish issues. The 8" could be north of 2K if it's really nice

The 8 3/8th probably dates to the mid-70s and the 6 1/2-inch to 73-74. Both are very nice and would be valued at $1500 to $2000 in my opinion. The smooth stocks are probably a replacement for the originals, but might be considered as an upgrade.

My 1969 production Un-Fired Class "C" Factory Engraved 3.5" Nickel 27-2
This fine specimen was sold to me by a dear friend who is also a SWCA member and I feel very honored that he let me become it's new caretaker!!
Other than a few early antique S&W's, this is currently my only nickel finish S&W

I used to be a blued steel and wood guy only, except for a rough nickel S&W Safety Hammerless that I inherited from my grandfather back in 1981. But, then I added a grail gun for me, a NIB nickel S&W 27-2 with 3 1/2” barrel, about 10 years ago. Then a K22 that “fat tom” sold to me that he had sent to Ford’s for a nickel finish, then a nickel Pre-10, a Colt Detective Special, and a Heavy Duty. So now I am up to 6.

One of my biggest regrets is letting go of a 4" nickel 29-2. I really liked that one! Oh, well.....
That .357 is nothing short of spectacular 3D!

How about a satin nickel 38-2 from 1993. No Airweight markings, and they came in a blue box.

I generally shy away from nickel unless it’s a killer deal. In which case I pick them up for trade pile. You never know when a piano player will pass through. These guys will trade you a nice blue S&W for a nickel model and throw in some boot.
The reason there seems to be a lot of nickel plated revolvers on the market is all political. The authorities have shut down most of the bordellos and that is putting a lot of unemployed piano players in financial straights. Some are forced to sell their shiny pistols to make ends meet.
Just think, how many piano players do you know that tote Glocks?

I like them but I do not have one. I did have a M36 square butt in nickel but I gave it to a friend a long time ago.

I do. I only have one. The last Smith I bought scratched two itches; I never owned a long barreled one, and I never owned a SHINY one!
Found this 27-2 locally about 3(?)years ago. It was a steal at just under $900. I almost dislocated my shoulder reaching for my wallet.

Here is my 442-0 in satin Nickel.
When I first saw it in the lgs consignment case I thought it was a 642.
I read somewhere that the nickel 442s were introduced because the early 642s were having a problem with the silver color finish.
Not sure there was any truth to that.

From the model 10 and 36 at the low end of the price range to model 29 and 57 there is something special about a new in the box factory nickel S&W.
I have a 27, 29, and 34 in nickel. I also have an 18 and a 1917 that have ancient factory refinish to nickel.
Factory Nickel on an old Colt or S&W is a thing of beauty even if it was sent back for a change of finish.
It’s a shame the factory does’nt do nickel anymore.

I could never warm up to the nickel revolvers. I accumulated 10 of them over the years. I always bought them at a good price. I have sold 8, they always looked to good to shoot. I kept a 4" 19-4 with the 3 t's. and a model 36 no dash.

I’ve never cared for the look of nickel-plated firearms. I guess that leaves just a little more out there for those that like them.

Some beautiful nickel revolvers on display here! Like some other Forum members, I'd always preferred blued over nickel and stainless. Then one day I had an epiphany and found that I kind of liked really shiny revolvers, too. I've only got a few in my modest collection: W&K .44 HE 3rd Model, .38 M&P, 19-4 snubby, 57, and a 29-2.
