Wasn't sure where to put this, mods can move if need be. I was just noticing today the difference in size between some K targets I have. Both are smooth/presentation style stocks, the smaller is rosewood, the larger GA as far as I can tell. Look at the difference in overall size and base circumference. Does this have to do with date of manufacture, or were there two distinct sizes?

I’ve seen some variation on target grips, date is one component.

Some of the N frame Smooth Targets in GA I have are also shorter at the heel area than some of the rosewood from a similar period.

The greatest variances I’ve seen are in the Combat Grips, both square butt and round. Certain models that fall outside the focus of this particular sub forum received examples that are notably more subtantial in the heel area than subsequently issued grips.

I've noticed the differences as well. Look at these two sets on my model 19's.

No trick photography. One set is quite larger than the other.

To illustrate another theory, here are two pair of smooth rosewood K targets I bought, one of which has been shortened by a previous caretaker......Ben

Anything is possible, I suppose - but I don't think so. They don't appear to have been altered, and while I certainly haven't seen everything I've never seen checkered rosewood stocks. And the length of the stocks is not so different - it's the overall girth that is noticeably larger.

6Gunsonly. Can you take some measurements?

I recently bought beat up set of targets that have a date stamped inside.
They are 'speed' or cutout targets rather than 'football' targets but I will post pictures with measurements up later. Still they would be a dated point of reference.

stamped June 6 1986
using a tailor's tape, 6.75" circumference at bottom.
1.5" wide, 2.375" long (fore-aft), 4.25" ht

(all measured in fractions, converted to decimal for ease of typing)
