emailed the historical society and they advised the revolver was too new for their digitized records. Trying to find out the manfuacture date. Appreciate any help.

Dash ones began in 1966. J-serial prefix began in 1969.

I found several in the database that bracket your serial number.
Smith & Wesson shipped them in April 1969. I'd say there's a
reasonable chance the company also shipped yours that month.
ps: Smith & Wesson neither produced nor shipped guns in serial
number order. We do not have access to production records, only
the shipping records.
