19-3 Nickel Questions .. How to Tell if Original
Looking for some help ... I just picked up a Model 19-3 Nickel .. Is there anyway I can tell for certain that this left the Factory as a Nickel ? ... No " N " Stamping on Cylinder ... Hoping someone can set me in the right direction.
Would all model be stamped on cylinder with a N ? Some are not ? Any help would be great.
Thank You
Ok .. Here are some pictures and info off frame and yoke ... Hammer and Trigger are Case Hard'n .. Nothing Stamped on Cylinder
Holding revolver forward like shooting it .. On Left side of Frame is .. G13 .. 99161 .. On the right side .. a R in a circle and a F in a triangle ... On the Yoke .. Same as left side stamped .. G13 .. 99161
If this was refinished, can you tell me if it was by Smith Wesson ?

Should be an "N" under the grip panels on the grip frame. Post some photos.
The more experienced forum members will be able to give you an opinion as to whether or not the finish is aftermarket or not.

Remember that the hammer, trigger and ejector star will not be nickel if it's original, but that could be duplicated by a plater who cares about such details.

Should have N stamped here if original.

Based on the appearance of the thumbpiece and the absence of the "N" marking, I would say it's aftermarket plating.

pictures of the right side would be better than the left side. It's easier to tell when looking at the sideplate seem and screw holes if it's been refinished. Along with the N stamps.

Everybody covered the bases. The "seam" on the side plate and holes is usually the tell. If you bought it as a shooter and not a Queen, who cares?
I shoot 19s all the time, they are better than I am. If you are happy.

The 19-3 nickel I recently bought had a 'N' stamped into the cylinder, and the frame as Saxon Pig showed. The serial number is 7K96XXX.

I've seen nickel guns not have N's on cylinder.

I do understand there are random examples of factory nickel without an "N" stamp on the frame.

Anyone know what a number stamped after the N might indicate?
The picture is what is stamped on my model 19. And yes I do have The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 4th Edition on order. Thanks just wondering.

The #3 is probably some "fitters" mark and it means nothing outside the factory.

A 3 is stamped on all frames used for the ".357" Combat Magnum (not sure why, heat treating or the longer cylinder maybe?). A zero (0) is stamped on all frames used for the 44 and 41 Magnums.
