After some of the previous posts I feel almost ashamed for owning only one model 27!
Here she is, 27-2 all original from 1975-76.

My only 27-2 is a salvage job. Found a very badly pitted 3.5" in a local gun shop. The original owner had left it in a vinyl gun rug under the seat of his truck. The flannel liner had absorbed moisture and held it against the gun until the original finish was ruined. The shop sold it to me cheep and I sent it to my gun smith, a real S&W guy. He round butted it, changed the trigger and cleaned up the action, then bead blasted off the rust and all but the deepest pits. A blue job and front sight insert finished it.
The end result is far from original but turned a ruined M27 into a excellent holster/carry gun that shoots as well as any I've ever owned.

They are a beautiful handgun. Love the pics. I picked one up at a aution years ago but when I got it home it had a few places it started to flake, I'm sending it back to S&W to have them refinish it.

Love 27s and especially those with 8 3/8 inch bbls. Hangs perfectly for me. Probably last gun to go from my safe.

My 27-2
S&W 27-2, 38/357 Mag, N4947XX, 6"
This is one of my grail guns,It’s tight as a drum, in great shape and shoots better than I do. Apparently the gun was from Puerto Rico, had been privately owed and had been turned in after the renewable permit expired. The store I found it at had it priced at $400.00. I told them if they were willing to sell the 27 for that price I would buy it. I also told them that I thought that they had it priced wrong. The guy seemed to be a little unhappy with that remark and asked how much do you want off . I said nothing, I telling you its priced way to low. He said he never hear that one before and called the boss over. The boss told me its a wheel gun, everybody want semi-autos, can’t get what those Smiths are worth in this area. So I bought it, and told him to call me if he gets more. Since that time I been able to also purchase from him a Model 19, 28, and 10 all at good prices. Sure glad those old wheel guns are so hard to sell.
The funny thing is this store is a no Mom and Pop operation, and they are very well know in this area for black guns. And no, I am not telling you who they are, it’s my secret place.

Lucky you, when I started to flake I was given some pills and told to go sit in a corner until I start to feel flighty and see streamers when people move their hands.

27-3 4". Not a collector's item, I know, strictly a working handgun. I bought this gun because I wanted a 4" N-frame .357 as a shooter and this one filled the bill. The Pachmayr grips reflect its purpose, I've fired over 5,000 rounds of .357 from this gun. It shoots like a laser.
The gun has an interesting history. It's covered with rollmarks, at least five of them. I learned that it was manufactured in February '88 and then shipped to a distributor in the former West Germany. How it made its way back here is anyone's guess.
