Are K and L frame grips interchangeable?
Curious about round butt K and L frame grips and whether or not they are the same.

Yup as long as you go round to round and square to square, they fit.

So if the grips are the same... can I buy the Ransom Rest insert and shoot round butt K and round butt L frames with the same insert on my Ransom Rest?

Yes.
The K frame grip dimensions and trigger reach were one of the primary design specifications of the L frame. S&W wanted the new sixguns to be the same as the older K frame sixguns grip-wise, as most shooters can handle the K just fine, but some small-handed shooters find the N frame grip too big and the trigger reach too great.

Sorry to wake a dead thread, but since it covers the same subject I thought I'd ask anyway.
Is it possible to use the Ransom Rest grip insert for K/L round butt with a N-frame revolver? The grips themselves seem to fit without any gaps, its just that the overly large parts stick out...

(reposting my reply on TFL):
Ransom Rest Grip Insert S&W K-Frame and L-Frame Round Butt Revolver - MidwayUSA -- going from the picture here:
the insert for the N-frame will not fit the K/L-frame (insert will be too large), and the insert for the K/L-frame will not fit the N-frame (insert will be too small).
I wonder if you could adapt the N-frame insert to fit the K-frame with shims or something that will fill in the extra material up by the double-action "horn", but it would have to be a perfect fit to prevent slipping.
