Default S&W Model 629, 6" Price Check

Looking at a 6" model 629. I would rate it 95%+. Trying to get an idea of a fair price for it.

I bought a perfect, low round count, 629-4 6" two years ago for $900 total. I will NEVER sell it!

What version number? The model number on the frame should be anything from 629 to 629-6.

JMO, a nice no dash 6 inch would be around $1000. Perhaps more or a little less depending on where you are. The 6 inch was the most common of the no dash barrel lengths. It is a pinned and recessed 629 though, and represents the first of the 629 series. Shoot standard .44 magnum and .44 special and you should be good.

Default 629 no dash price

Recent selling price here for a 99% 629 no dash 6" with no turn line, presentation box, no papers or tools was $1500. This spring, a 95% 4" 629-4 no box, no papers sold nearby for $1200. A year ago, a new 629-6 was $975 at the LGS. If you're willing to pay the asking price, there's always someone willing to sell and if you're willing to sell, there's always someone willing to pay your asking price. Currently, this seems to be going to the extreme in many instances.
Right now, I would suggest that unfortunately for buyers, the only gauge of a "fair" price is what was just paid locally for a similar firearm or what you are willing to outlay for the one in front of you with an agreeable seller. Are you willing to wait, maybe lose out on this one, and hope for another in as good or better condition at a better price? What if prices continue to increase as they have been doing? Will you then kick yourself for having passed on this one?
Who knows what the situation will be in weeks, months, a couple years from now? If you want it, like it, and are willing and can afford to open your wallet for it, then get it, enjoy it, and don't look back.
Best of luck in your decision making.

These days, a no-dash Model 629 in excellent condition is going to sell for a minimum of $1000, even more with box and papers.

If you can wait a few years, you should be able to pick one up from someone who overpaid now, and needs cash later.... If not, you will take a severe beating on anything you buy. Hopefully, the one you're looking at is from a friend or relative who doesn't need the cash for food or rent (and who likes you A LOT) :-))))
IMHO,
J.

You are entering the realm of "collectors items" in this gun. The 6" guns were introduced in 1979 having a P&R barrel & N serial number prefix. In 1980 they introduced the 4" & 8 3/8" barrel lengths. In 1981 they dropped the P&R with many coming out with pinned barrel OR recessed cyl. In about 1982 they started the Alpaha-numerical serial numbering system. Of late the prices I have seen have been over $1000.

Many of these guns were shipped with this type of presentation cases
