Default 6" model 66-4 price check

A local gun shop has a used 6" 66-4 its a no lock model and appears to have MIM trigger and hammer. Timing and lock up is really good, I already have a 4" no dash with a pinned barrel and recessed chambers
Id like to add the 6" version to my collection if the price is right.
Btw its in fair condition minor holster rub marks, with rubber grips, no box, it should clean up nicely with some polishing to look like the 4" I already own.

66-4s should have forged parts - are you thinking that its color-casehardened trigger and hammer are MIM because of their coloration?

Polishing, while liked by some, actually devalues an S&W revolver as the original finish was not polished stainless, so that might negatively affect its worth to many people. If you like chrome-looking stainless steel guns, then it's not a factor for you. To me, it lowers the gun's value by whatever S&W would charge to refinish it plus shipping costs both ways.

Some will say the six-inch barrel lowers its value. To me, that's a hunting or target revolver and as such, the barrel length is perfect. Model 66s (like that -4) are no longer made and no new ones remain to be purchased. Likewise, the number of like-new used ones that are available to purchase become lower in number all the time. Given all that, I wouldn't think that something in the $600 area would be too much for that gun. What you pay for it today is almost irrelevant because it will seem like a bargain in years to come.

Bought two 6 inch 66-3s this year; $525 and $550. Wouldn't expect to find nice ones (-4s or otherwise) for less than that. . .and would buy another if I did. Good luck.

Yep, between 500 and 600 would be typical.

I'd say clean it - don't polish it.
