I've been looking at a Performance Center model 13. According to the SCSW there were 400 of these made in 1995. They are matte blacke with a 3" ported barrel with shroud.

This example has slight holster wear at the muzzle and front of the cylinder. I would say 90%.

Does anyone have any additional information such as value, etc? It is priced at $650 and they will take $600 for it.

Box, instructions, product info insert? If it has the original materials, that's very reasonable, at least by local standards.

Unfortunately, there is no box or paperwork. The trigger is AMAZING. It was apparently carried daily by a deputy sheriff but shot very little and the finish reflects this. Apparently he has a similar piece in stainless that he uses as a shooter and this was his carry gun.

Picked it up today. It's not the best photo, but here it is:

Good purchase. In a way, the finish wear is an advantage, since it shouldn't tempt you to stay a safe queen. FWIW (almost nothing), those aren't the original grips.

Thanks. I knew going in that some had Uncle Mike's grips and some had Eagle Secret Service grips with no way to tell which one came on this gun. I think I will buy a set of each just in case. FWIW, the Pachmayr compacs are really comfortable and to my eye they add to the "carry gun" look.

That is "A serious carry gun" no really ,that is what the product circular called them.
Considering the magna porting is factory ,I would have jumped all over that one for the price. Even carried and used a P.C. gun like that is a winner.

Congrats on a fine piece. Just so you know ,these are so desirable ,some of us just have to build our own.
As I did here. I cut a 4" gun down to 3" and round butted it , and installed a bobbed hammer. Just like yours Huh?
Just kidding , I'd rather have the P.C.

Regards , Allen Frame

Nice job, Allen-Frame. I love 3-inchers and have tried to focus my collection on them. I also have a M65 Ladysmith that is the same configuration; 3", RB, Shrouded ejector. They make a nice pair.

I'm still looking for a standard M13 in 3". I had one at one time that was originally shipped to the FBI academy at Quantico. AFAIK my ex still has it and won't part with it.

Smart woman. ;) I'll avoid comments on how she feels about three inchers.

SCSW probably has the answer - I used to know but forgot. There were two "series" of this gun, IIRC. At least the first one had the Eagle SS grips, and I think they had different shape ports cut in the muzzle. If you have SCSW, you could check, or if I get energetic, I'll look it up. Either way, these are great revolvers.

SWSC is incomplete on this. It lists two catalog numbers, one for guns with the Eagles, one for guns with Uncle Mike's. It makes no mention of two runs, only that 400 were made. It also says all serial numbers had a JPC prefix. Mine has an HPC prefix, which according to another thread is the first run of 200 (mine is HPC0145).

There were two runs....

And these were only seperated by a few weeks. The first guns made had the quad porting on the barrel, as seen in the pic above, and literally weeks later the second run was made, the main difference was that the location of the ports had changed to the rib.
I believe there was probably some sort of issue between S&W and Magnaport, but do not know that for a fact, resulting in S&W putting the ports up on the rib.
Edited: The first run, product code 170059, was shipped with Eagle Secret Service Boot grips, the second run, product code 170063, was shipped with Uncle Mikes grips.
The first run was serial numbered with "HPCxxxx" prefix and shipped in Feb of 1995. The second run - literally - was only a few weeks later, and the serial prefix for these guns is "JPCxxxx".
These pics show the differences in the porting locations.

Edited: Just checked my records, the first run (my gun is early) started shipping in Jan 1995, the second run (same serial number as the first run) shipped in April of 1995.

SmithNut,

That's some good information; way more than the SCSW gives. Do you have both versions? is there any difference in function between the two designs? Any more or less flash?

Were these shipped in a special Performance Center box? I' like to have all the correct bits and pieces if I can find them.

I will look for some Eagle grips like that just to make a complete package, but I'm likely to keep the Pachmayrs or put some Hogue Bantams on for actual shooting or carry.

I feel very lucky to have scored this gun and at a seemingly reasonable price at that.

Swaz,
The pic S.N. posted was showing difference between porting styles and not meant to show correct grips.
Congrats on your fab PC13!
Glenn

Thanks Max-BB,
Yes, that is what I posted, and I hope others noted that as well.
I was an early fan of the Eagle grips, but after years of playing with them, having to fit them to the guns and dealing with poor wood quality, I moved on, to Spegels....
The guns in the pics above do show Spegels, it was my error to not note that for all.

swaz602,
As for grips, the Eagles feel "ok", but I much prefer Spegels these days. Rubber grips are great for shooting at the range, but 'carry' demands something better, certainly less sticky, etc. I like grips that not only feel good while shooting, but also look good, that's why I've converted to Spegels for most of my late model guns. As a collector, I will normally default to factory grips when, in fact, the grips are factory, but for all the aftermarket grips being used on late model guns in an OEM fashion, I just don't adhere to the concept of leaving them "original". Aftermarket is aftermarket, whether shipped originally or added later, so I'm using what I like over what the factory chose.

After I wrote that I realized that they look like Spegels. I agree that rubber isn't the best for concealed carry as my T-shirt hangs up on the grips of my otherwise invisible 642. Those Pachmayr Compacs are sure comfy though.

By the way SmithNut: I was under the impression that the Eagle grips looked like this, rather than the pic that you posted.

Mine is from the first run and was purchased in the box with all literature, etc. The picture above is correct, and correctly shows the Eagle grips. The first run was in a ordinary blue plastic box.

Edit: where'd you locate that pic?

I think he's politely trying to say that the Eagle grips are, well, pretty cr@ppy, which would be the naked truth - at least IMO. I have had Spegals on my carry guns for more than a decade and still think they're hard or impossible to beat.
