That "V" notch rear sight is giving me grief
I love the brightness of the florescent red front sight. But I'm having a tough time with that "V"-notch rear sight. Sometimes I pick up the gun and I'm dead-on, other times I pull to the left by 6". I'm trying to learn the technique, but after 100 rounds yesterday I was a bit frustrated. I've got about 300 rounds through the pistol now, and I'm past the trigger-mashing stage. But my eyes and this V-notch don't seem to be getting along. I'm going to give it some more time, but I may have to change that rear sight. Anyone else have experience with the V-notch? Did you get past it or did you change it out?

I have a half lugged 686 5inch that has that sight set up. I didn't like it either so I took a small rat tail file and carefully made it into a U-notch. I like it a lot better now and it works for me.
Just a suggestion.

I did not like the fiber optic front sight on the 329pd and changed mine to a tritium XS dot. I needed some contrast to the rear sight and painted a triangle on mine.

The V notch/fluorescent front works very well for quick sight acquisition, especially in low light, and is very good for a self defense weapon.
However for target shooting or hunting, I find getting a precise sight picture more difficult than with conventional sights. I changed them out on my 686 5".

You guys that have ditched the V notch rear sights are welcome to send them to me for proper disposal. I am a real fan of the V in conjunction with a front FO.

Just call S&W and have them send out a standard or white outline rear sight blade. They can be changed in under ten minutes if you are familiar with the procedure. Probably 30 minutes if you are new to the job.
The cost of a blade kit is about $14.
I changed mine out as soon as I got them.

Good idea. I'm going to try the white triangle trick. It might be enough contrast to get my eye to align.
