Default V-notch rear sight!

Hello to everybody!
When I have bought my M&P R8, I was not sure about that v-notch rear sight, ready to change it to a more classical rear sight (by the way, it seems that every S&W rear sight is out of stock everywhere )
I shoot with my R8 since almost 2 months, and surprisingly, I had very good results with that rear sight. Many shooters were quite sceptical about it, but trying out the revolver, they were quite surprised too about the accuracy.

So here is my question : originally, how justify the v-notch rear sight on a revolver? You shooters, what do you think about it? Pro and con...
I'm very curious about it...

Thanks in advance (and sorry for my english which is not perfect...)

I have a v rear sight on my Ruger Single Six and a brass bead front sight. I really like the v sight. Seems to make aiming a lot easier and I have thought about putting one on other revolvers.

Whould do say that it makes aiming faster too compared to square rear sight?

I also have the rear V on my R8 and had initially swapped it out for something else. Funny though as it went from hyper accurate in my hand to so-so... Back goes the v notch and it's back to being Buck Roger's ray gun again. My only issue with it is it's so darn tall and easy to snag on EVERYTHING...

I like the Buck Roger's idea.
But if I look at all the revolvers (Ruger, S&W, Taurus etc...) the v-notch rear sight seem not at all common.
Do you know why?

The V-notch paired with a red fibre front sight didn't work so well with my eyes initially as I was having difficulty figuring out where to put the big red dot. Then I added a little white finger-nail polish to help me align - made a big difference for me.

I only have the V-notch on one of my pistols.

While not a revolver my Ruger Mark 3 Hunter came with a V notch rear and a fiber optic front. I love the combination for fast target aquisition while shooting steel speed matches. For accuracy based matches I changed the rear blade because I found for me I wasn't as accurate. Thankfully Ruger rear sight blades can be changed without breaking the screw.

Fast target aquisition seems a good reason, I don't forget that M&P R8 means Military & Police, so it makes sense...

That might be but I would assume that while it's great at closer ranges it doesn't shine to well at a farther distance shot. Think of them like rifle express sights.

That is what I found with the V notch on my Ruger. I started shooting an accuracy based match with targets out to 25 yards and the V notch wasn't as precise as the standard square notch.

Too bad, I would like to do like you with your Ruger: change the blade according the mood and the way of shooting (precision or plinking)

I believe it does. The sights just line up more natural with the v and round bead.
