hi! i bought the 8 3/8" barrel. i don't know of any real differences. i wish i would have bought the longer barrel because the gun is so big and heavy that a few more inches couldn't possibly do anything but improve accuracy.

I have the standard XVR-8-3/8 with Burris scope. With a bunch of practice, I can now shoot 3-1/2" groups (5 shot) at 100 yds just about whenever. I've shot two groops of thee shots at about 1-1/2 inches at 100 yds. That's with my handloads of the 200 gr hornady round. I think consistant 2" groups is possible.

My gun does not shoot lead bullets worth a crap. 4-5" groups at 50 yds. perhaps because of the gain twist rifling in the XVR barrel. My impression is that is was made to shoot the 200 gr byllet at 2,200 fps. period.

Now that 10" barrel has a major cool factor. I'm not sure how it is rifled and what loads it will shoot. Someday, I might have that 10"er installed on mine.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I was wondering if anyone knew of like statistics that might be different, like the velocity or if bullets drop more in the 8 inch, and so forth. Keep the help coming :D

bullet drop is not a problem on the 8. using the 200 gr Hornady loads, mine shoots about center at 50yds and 1" high at 100yds. I don't know when it comes back down to zero. The farthest range I have to shoot at is 100yds.

so really its just preference, they arent much of a difference? maybe a bit more accurate for the 10 inch?

If you are using optics, there should be no difference in accuracy. (actually, the shorter barrel should be more accurate) A longer barrel provides better accuracy when using iron sights due to the increased distance between the sights. You will lose a little velocity with the shorter barrel, which will change your trajectory for long range shots. Loss of velocity would likely be less than 10%, at least that is my SWAG.

alright thanks for the help, kinda makin me think the 8 inch might be the way to go, but i really like the looks of the 10 :P

When you get over 8 inches in a handgun, you might as well carry a rifle. It gets very cumbersome and Front heavy. If im gonna handgun hunt Id use a gun with a bbl no longer than a 8 inch.
