Default S&W 940 3" Value? production numbers?

Just scored a S&W 940 3" NIB with Box and everything at a local pusher. Never thought I'd see one in Ca. (They are not on "the list" and so can not be imported into Ca.)

What do folks think these are worth these days? (I think I did OK at $600 (plus fees, of course)) I bought a 2" 940 about 5 years ago for $350 so it seems like a bit of a jump but one just doesn't see the 3" pieces out there.

Anyone have any idea of production numbers?

They made the 940 from 91 - 98 but discontinued the 3" in 93. I would think you did well in CA at the price you paid.

I have a couple of 3 inch 940s I bought four years ago.
I paid $300.00 for one and $350.00 for the other.
Both are NIB, with papers and tools. I'm seeing them at Gun Shows for up to $1000.00 which I think is way too much.

Nice guns, I just haven't shot them yet.

Cherokee,
You're a better photographer than I am! Sweet!

Please see my other thread about my 'Modest 'J' frame collection'. I do have the short barreled one too. I hope to get the 3" out to the range in a day or two.

Still wondering how many were made.

I doubt anyone outside the factory would know, and the number may not be readily available unless someone has compiled the data. The 940 was not a strong seller while it was being produced and the 3" were a minority of the total, so a few thousand at most?
