A true handgun nut buys and shoots whatever "turns his crank." Shooting a 460 or a 500 is pushing the limit but isn't that what it's all about?
I have a 6.5 500 for a shooter/hunter. I, like others, have heard all the negative "almost owned one" or "haven't shot one but I've heard" or "a friend of a friend of a friend said." These are such common comments from the naysayers.... many of whom don't really have a clue about these fine handgun except what they've assumed or wanted to conclude. Nothing seems to bring out the "coulda, woulda, shoulda" crowd like an X frame.
I hand-load and cast my own bullets. Those who do can load them hot or load them light. These calibers have far more versatility than the always present detractors would have everyone believe.
Yes... a short barreled X frame can have very heavy recoil and an extremely powerful blast report. But if you can handle it the strength of the gun and the versatility of the calibers will open up a whole new world of handgun shooting.
They aren't for everyone and they shouldn't be. I don't believe S&W intended them to be. If a person hasn't personally handled an X frame or shot one perhaps it would be wise to reserve comments until they do. Just my 2c....
