Talking I can't explain it, but I want a 3.5" .460XVR

I'd only ever shoot 45Colt out of it (can barely handle 44 mag out of my 629 Carry Comp), but for some reason I want one. The only two I've seen for sale lately were both $1.4k which is way too much.

And yeah, I like that muzzle break!

That is definitely a hand cannon. I had to have the 500 survival gun. I think it is 2 3/4 inches. Shot it about 6 times. Realized that it was a collectable, not shooter for me. That should be referred to as a hand cannon. Hope you find a deal on the 460.

"Why did you want to buy such a big handgun"? "Because I didn't already have one"!

I shot a .460 ONCE. Way too much handgun for me and I can shoot a buttload of .41 magnums. The 500 actaully felt better but still too much for me in a handgun.

If I need that much power I'll use my Marlin Guide gun in 45/70, or keep packing and shooting my .41 mags with the appropriate load for the task at hand.

Looks like a death ray revolver with that brake to me and I would not want to be on the wrong end of it

There is nothing to explain. That gun is cool!

Same reason I had an Encore in .45-70. Used it for deer hunting one year, (handgun) with 15 inch barrel. Illinois does not allow rifles, only shotguns and pistols. Now that gun was cool too, but I traded it off as the recoil was tremendous. It did clear all the leaves off of trees in a 50 yard radius and improved visibility in the woods.

I have the ES model with a 2 3/4 inch barrel, now I'll the be the first to tell you it isn't a pop gun but with mid-range .460 loads (I have some Magtech 260gr FMJ) it isn't THAT bad...just make sure you hang on tight and don't let it get away from you lest you wish to be removing the front sight from your forehead

Don't want to think of shoving the 200gr screamers in it,nor the 300+ gr anti Godzilla loads, but all in all it's a fun gun.

.454 is like a over juiced .44 mag and the colt shells are akin to .22's

I am finding a use for this gun a bit right now....not so sure I can fire it with one hand and in the area I've moved into I'd kill a few neighbors.

A true handgun nut buys and shoots whatever "turns his crank." Shooting a 460 or a 500 is pushing the limit but isn't that what it's all about?

I have a 6.5 500 for a shooter/hunter. I, like others, have heard all the negative "almost owned one" or "haven't shot one but I've heard" or "a friend of a friend of a friend said." These are such common comments from the naysayers.... many of whom don't really have a clue about these fine handgun except what they've assumed or wanted to conclude. Nothing seems to bring out the "coulda, woulda, shoulda" crowd like an X frame.

I hand-load and cast my own bullets. Those who do can load them hot or load them light. These calibers have far more versatility than the always present detractors would have everyone believe.

Yes... a short barreled X frame can have very heavy recoil and an extremely powerful blast report. But if you can handle it the strength of the gun and the versatility of the calibers will open up a whole new world of handgun shooting.

They aren't for everyone and they shouldn't be. I don't believe S&W intended them to be. If a person hasn't personally handled an X frame or shot one perhaps it would be wise to reserve comments until they do. Just my 2c....

Flame suit on.....
