Default Purchased my first S&W today, how'd i do?

Bought a 29-3 Nickel 44mag with a 6 inch barrel. Light wear on the grip and minor stains on the nickel. Prob 95% overall. Lockup is tight with no gap. Did not come with a box, but does have a shoulder holster and some ammo. Serial number is AJA5XXX. Anyone have any more info for me? How much would this be somewhat worth? Paid 475.

Ive always been a 1911 auto guy, so this is new territory for me. It does have a pretty smooth DA trigger and a crisp SA trigger.

Anything more i need to know?

Welcome to the fold! I'm by no means an expert here, but I'd say you did very well. I think most would tell you its worth at least another $75 to $100 in most areas of the country. I passed on a 6 1/2" blued 29-2 at the last show. He was asking the same as yours though I think he would have taken less. I should probably have pursued it, but it had some minor finish issues and I was on the way out the door, so my mind wasn't in the right spot for haggling. In retrospect I think I blew that one. Oh well, I've since picked up a minty 1969 vintage Browning High Power which seems to have made me feel much better and for about Benjamin less! Be sure to give us a shooting report once you've taken it out.

I think you did really well. A used 29 with those Goncalo Alves grips for 475 is a good deal! Ammo for a 44 is a little more difficult to find and a little more expensive, but it's fun to shoot.

Thanks everyone for the info. I just missed out on a 629 NIB, but hopefully i can find a nice 686 that will match well with this beauty.

You are only lucky that I did not find it first. Good going; nice revolver.

You will find that revolvers are a lot like 1911s -- you always want another one! Shooting a revolver is quite different from shooting a 1911, and it makes the trips to the range much more fun. You did well.
