Hello. I'm considering the purchase of a new Model 627 Performance Center revolver (see link).

Product: Model 627

My question and concern is, are there any open top belt holsters readily available for this handgun or will I have to wait for one to be custom-made for it?

Thanks!

There are a couple. I saw two on ebay the other day. They are available but you DO have to look for them.

Thanks. The only holster I found on the S&W web site that will work with the 2.6" PC 627 is a thumb-break model.

I think I'm going to give Simply Rugged a call and see if they make their Sourdough holster for this model.

Hi Steve,

I have the 627PC in the 2.6" barrel. Its an N-Frame & a little heavier than my L-Frame 686-4 snubby. Being in Law Enforcement we've both had to run after the BG, hop fences, & wressle them onto the ground to handcuff them. I had much rather have a thumb break holster like pictured below for weapon retention. "Thumbing" it off is a nothing job. Hate to have lost it on the ground when needed. The one i have now is a DeSantis lined. Best of luck & stay safe my friend.

That wheelgun with those beautiful stocks is a real work of art, Carl. Very nice.

Regarding the thumb-break holster, you're absolutely correct. When I was on the job, there were many times when I had to run down a BG, jump fences, and roll around on the ground with one. A knee or the "atomic elbow" in the back usually helped to get them cuffed. ;)

That said, I'll be retired for 20 years in April and I'm done chasing people. Fact is, the only time I run now is the short distance to my car when it's raining. :D

Anyway, I've been using open-top holsters exclusively for at least the last ten years and feel comfortable with them.

Stay safe, partner, and enjoy your holidays.

I cant remember the name (gimme time tho) but there is a custom holster company that makes an open top leather holster that is supposed to be extremely secure. I will look for the link.

Thanks! I'd like to read about it.

Galco makes the Combat Master open top and Silohette (???) thumb snap for 2.5 inch N frames. I just got my Smith UDR two days ago. Mine is a .44 Mag though. I have a 327 Night Guard for my 8 shooter .357 Im a retired cop also. The .44 Mag UDR will be my CCW while camping with my family in the mountains of Wyoming next year. We have Grizzlies and large Wolves around these parts. Im going to order the Combat Master and a single speedloader pouch today!

Galco holsters; Holsters; Gun holster, pistol holsters, western holsters, shoulder holsters, leather holster and Glock holsters

I hadn't thought to check the Galco site, but I know from experience dating back to their "*******" days that they make one of the best "off the shelf" holsters available anywhere. Thanks for the heads up, RPD20.

I went with the SILHOUETTE HIGH RIDE HOLSTER for my 327 ( still waiting on it). That way I could use my longer barreled N frames with it if I choose.

Good Idea about multiple use holsters. Good leather gear is expensive, you might as well get the most out of it. I think the Combat Master is an open bottom also.
I put the grips that came with my UDR on my 327 NG. WOW, is it ever compact and lightwieght! I highly suggest the 327 NG. My UDR now wears Pachmayer Grippers. No way in hell am I touching off 300 grain XTP's with those Boots Grips on her!

I know you weren't looking at custom ones but you might want to try lobo gunleather. He's a member here and makes great holsters. I have 4 of them including one for the 41 mag version of the pistol you have, and he's generally the same price or cheaper than an off the shelf holster.

Thanks, grunt. I actually have ordered two holsters from Ray @ Lobo now, a full floral, hand-carved Tom Threepersons for a 6" M28 and an Enhanced Pancake for my M&P340 which is due to arrive by the end of the month. I agree that his work is top shelf.

Right now I'm looking for something I can get relatively quickly so I don't have to wait a month or more to carry the PC 627 which I hope to order this week if my dealer can locate one in stock for me. :)

Here's the Lobo Tom Threepersons

XTrooper,
You will realy like the UDR, they are super nice. With that said, have you ever checked out the Night Guards? The 327 NG is a much lighter carry gun. It is still an 8 shooter. I think mine weighs less than my Colt DS. Im sure you know what you want/need but I just wanted to throw the 327 out there.

BTW, I did get my Combat Master and a single speedloader case (both in black) ordered today. I cant wait. My 327NG might just edge out the Glock 23 as my EDC.

I agree. The Night Guards are really nice. I've handled and shot both the 327 NG and 357 NG and liked them a lot. However, I have a scandium-framed .357 in the M&P 340 (see below) and I'm specifically interested in the 627 because it is all stainless steel. I'm looking for a snubby with a little heft this time. ;)
