Default Mepro night sights durability

On a 686 that I sent in to S&W for the recall, I asked that they install some Mepro's that I purchased and sent along.

Their smith, Vito, called me and talked me out of 'em because of his opinions about the front sight insert coming loose. So, they sent the sights back uninstalled. Instead they milled the existing front blade, and installed a gold bead patridge sight that I agreed to doing.

I've worked with Loctite before, and have developed great confidence in their products. So, I have a hard time believing that the insert is going to come loose. Was Vito just up selling their stuff?

I have no reason to believe that Vito was telling you anything but his own experience. However, mine has been different. I have never had a Mepro come loose.

The Metros that replace the red insert in the front sight are very prone to snagging. I could see these being broke loose in a carry gun, I have a set on a HD gun and they work fine. I'm surprised he didn't offer to install a ramped front night sight for you.

I installed them on my two 686 home defense guns around seven years ago and neither of the front inserts have loosened. They need to fit snugly in the notch; also try to find a scratching tool of some sort to rough up the bottom of the notch so that the Loctite can grap a little better. The tech at Smith probably ran into some that were carelessly installed. He shouldn't, for that reason, have concluded that they are prone to loosen up -they aren't.
