Lew Horton Model 24 Info?
I've been looking around at some possible backup/off duty revolvers and the Lew Horton 3" Smith M24 .44 Special with the grooved, round head, combat grips looks to be a nice option. I like the caliber, I've got large hands and it just looks boss.
But I thought I read somewhere there was a recall on those. My questions for those in the know are were all the 3 inchers made by Lew Horton or were there factory versions, did only Horton's come with the round grips, was there was a recall, was it fixable or is S&W going to keep the gun if you send it in and try to offer you another?
I'm really interested in one of these, so someone smarter than me please enlighten me on these big boomers.
Thanks!

TexasRaider, as far as I know, the only recalls were on the stainless steel versions...the Model 624. There were no recalls on the carbon steel ones (Model 24-3). Yes, all the 3 inch versions were, in fact, Lew Horton Specials. They were all equipped with red ramp front sights, white outline rear blade, and round butt frame. There were a total of 5,000 of these made.

They make a fine totin' pistola. Packin' mine today. My hands are small and the combat stocks that you are talking about don't work for me. Had a set of custom magnas made by Keith Brown.

I thought I had heard something about the cylinder having issues and cracking, and no replacement parts available. Glad to hear the carbon steel versions didn't suffer that ill, as I prefer the blue to the stainless on a hip carry wheelgun. Thanks.
KSCowboy, I appreciate the photo...that 24-3 is one sweet beast. Makes me wish I already had one. Man, it would be tough to choose between that blue .44 Special and the mysterious, elusive S&W Model 610 (no dash) that has eluded me since 1991. (Or more accurately, has eluded my bank account...)

KS, great looking grips. Keith does amazing work. I would like to know who made the holster? Thanks, Bob
