Are small (J) frame revolvers drilled&tapped?
I believe most of the current medium and large framed S&W revolvers come from the factory drilled and tapped for optics mounting.
Does this hold true for the small frame guns? I suspect it does not but was wondering about some of the 3" barrelled versions.
Thank you.

I am sorry, but would optics not defeat the purpose of small, concealable revolvers? Just a question.....

I have a 60-10 (.357, 3" adjustable sights), a 317-1 ( .22 LR, 3" adjustable sights) and a 651-1 (.22 WMR, 4" adjustable sights) and none of them are drilled and tapped for a scope mount. They're all from the late 1990's. The 5" Model 63-? (announced in 2007) was drilled and tapped, but that's the only J frame I know of that is.

As far as I know, the "J" frames are not drilled and tapped. There are many "J" frames out there that would make good revolvers if Red Dotted for those who have poor vision. The .22 Kit Guns are a good example as are the later 5" .357 models.
It IS a bit bizarre, perhaps, but I CAN see the possibilities. I had my 4" Sp 101 Ruger .32 H&R Red Dotted so I could zero the sights. The Sp101 is only adjustable for windage. Here's a shot of the Ruger (I hope this won't upset the S&W Community):

Thank you all for the replies.
I guess my interest is a bit unusual; I'd like to try some Bullseye shooting and was hoping to use revolvers (which immediately puts me in a tiny minority) but my hands are rather small and I have trouble rapidly cocking my K frame guns so thought perhaps a smaller frame gun might help.
I think I need to try different size grips on my K's.
Thanks again.

Over the past few years I've owned a 642, a 638, and currently own a 438. None have been drilled and tapped.

A set of properly fitting grips will allow you to cock the K Frame more easily. You will be amazed how much difference a correctly fitting (your hand) set of grips will help.

My no longer available 5" 63-4 is really drilled and tapped - wow, I never looked before. My newer 3" 63-5 is not - neither is my even more recent 3" 60 Pro. A local shop still had a new leftover 5" 60, the last time I was there - $599. I may check it out!
Incidently, my Weigand # SWHPMNTS/B- silver scope rail - bought for my 6" 629-6, which it fits fine - has the right hole alignment, but it's width to the surrounding lip leaves some overhang. Sorry I am not more ambitious - and won't dismount the rear sight to test, but I am happy with the stock rear sight and the HiViz I installed on the front.
