What is the difference of 6" Model 29-3 and a 6" Model 29-5 in their construction?
I have a chance to get a model 29-3 and or a model 29-5. The 29-5 is in a bit better condition than the 29-3, probably 98%+. The price difference is $50.00 higher for the 29-5. It is $725.00 with the box and instructions orig factory wood targets in excellent condition and a spare set of Hogues. I was wondering if there is any structural difference in a 29-3 to a 29-5. Thanks for your help.

The 29-5 has the "Endurance Package". The visible indicator is longer, wider, and deeper cylinder stop notches. The studs in the frame were radiused to prevent cracking and the yoke retention was beefed up, among other things. This began with the 29-4 and the 629-2, IIRC. May not be important if you aren't planning to pound hundreds of full house heavy loads though it.
I have a 29-6 Classic 6-1/2" full lug blue and and it's a nail drivin' beast. I like the look of the longer stop notches too.

Thanks Tom,
I heard there was something changed, didn't expect that much. Looks like the 29-5 is the winner! Thanks again for your reply, can't beat all the help that comes from all you guys on this forum!

I pick up my "new" 29-5 6" tomorrow morning!
I decided to go with the 29-5 I found for $725.00 shipped. It is 99.5%+. Looks almost new, even the turn line is hardly there. The targets on it are 100% not even a blemish and dated to the gun, 02-13-1992. I am meeting my Grandson to take it out and will give a report. Anyone have one of these let me hear what your thoughts on the gun are, and how did I do on the price? I think I did ok. It also comes with the cardboard box and an extra Hogue grip, manual and warranty papers. Even the packing paper that came in the box with the gun. Any replies will be appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks Ken
Sure is an ordeal to be able to get any neat older S&W's here in CA. If they arent local to do FTF you are hosed, unless you want to drive 100's of miles. Out of state and you are definitely out of luck. This was close enough to do a person to person transfer, I missed out on a couple that were in No. Cal too far away. Someday maybe the "Safe List" will go away!
