Default 686 picture thread

Since there seems to be a lot of love for the 686 I thought it would be great to have a thread that is dedicated to them. So share pictures of yours here.

My 686 (no dash), is by far my favorite handgun.

If there is another thread for this, the mods can delete this one. I tried the search, but did not see one.

I have seven, but the photo limit is five. In order, they are a 4" -4, a 6" no-dash, a 6" unfluted -3, a 6" PowerPort -3 and a second 6" no-dash with a Millet rear sight. I also have a 6" PowerPort -5 and a 6" -3.

I really like 686s but for informal target shooting, I prefer my 66s

Ed

My 686P-6 - Although it has the dreaded IL, it's still a nice gun.

Perfect timing, I just bought a 4" 686-1 at lunch today. I'll have to get some pictures of it when I get home!

I bought this 686 no dash in 1982, my first brand new S&W revolver. My Dad made this custom presentation box for it and gave it to me for Christmas that year.

686-1 6" No Lock.

Do any of you find the 6" barrel-heavy? Mine is kind of new to me and sometimes I wish I'd found a 4" no lock...

Of course I don't feel that way when I'm hitting good patterns at 75'...

National Match version, 5" barrel, circa 1989, 1 of 500, supposedly the result of a collaboration with Bill Davis, product code 104254.

I guess I can be forced to post 'em.....

My new new (to me) 686-3 6 inch just as it arrived home....

After a bead blast and in the company of it's little brother, my 686-3 4 inch (bought new in '89)....

And the 6 inch after a trip to the nice S&W Agent out here with a new front sight and action job....

Here is my M686-1 6" with the original grips. What an awesome gun. I love shooting it even with full .357 loads.

I'm glad I get to post the first 686-6 Plus Pro Series with a 5" bbl on here! So far I love this gun, after some calibration it's shooting like a champ. Doesnt hurt that its factory cut for moon clips either. I don't mind the Hogue monogrip, it fits nicely and seems practical, but i might get some wood grips soon for looks .

The S&W 686 will live on forever. It doesn't fail to feed, it doesn't fail to eject, no magazines to worry about. Don't need to polish the ramp, nor be concerned about getting sliced when the slide comes back. Shoots about anything. Nine pages so far of outstanding 686s. Keep 'er flowing guys. My 686-4 snubby.

The only time my carry gun is at my feet as I am typing is usually sitting on the pot after a spicy Mexican meal

Heck no on the too heavy M3Stuart. Stick with her and with practice I think you will start to embrace the extra heft, as well as the extra 2" of sight radius. She is one sweet piece.

It's front heavy also because of the full underlug if you are feeling the gun to test it's balance. But when I'm shooting, I don't notice it.

If I'm holding it, it feels nose-heavy. If I'm shooting it feels just right!

Default 686

My 5" is upper right. It started as a 5inch stock, and then i had it worked over by the Smith PC.

Default I'll Play

In September of 1992 I had a birthday coming up and saw an add in the Tampa Tribune for this weapon. Met the seller at a convienance store just outside of Imperial Lakes in Lakeland FL. He wanted $285.00 I offered $250.00 and the weapon was mine. He scratched out a receipt on a scrap of paper and took my name and address with a promise to mail the box etc...asap. Good to his word, I got all the goodies a couple of weeks later. I still have a copy of the ad, receipt, box and goodies and of course my 686-3.
Because I have two hands, this one is definately one of the last two guns to go.
BTW the seller's first name was Alan. If you happen to recognize yourself in my story, reach out, it would be interesting to hear from you.
Ladies & Gentlemen;

Default Can anyone say if the trigger and hammer look "normal"?

357.jpg

Do the trigger and hammer colorations indicate a problem?
