New 638-3 (Rattle)
Hello all.
I purchased a new 638 on-line which shipped to my local FFL; I picked it up today and I'm noticing what appears to be a slight internal rattle sound when I shake the pistol (unloaded of course). The sound does not appear to be in the cylinder area, nor the firing pin. Have any other 638 owners noticed a rattle??
Thanks in advance!

It is most likely the transfer bar safety. It sits loosely under the side plate. The rattle is normal. If you don't like it you can put a little bit of thick grease on it and that will make it stick to the metal and stop the rattle.

Yes, I would say it's the hammer block. Nothing to worry about.

I have a 638-3 w/the same thing, but I do have to shake it pretty hard. It has had several hundred rounds put down range, to include Buffalo Bore +P, and no problems what-so-ever to date. You should be very happy w/your 638.

Thanks for the info, I feel better about it now. I need to feed it a good diet of ammo this weekend, that might help it
