Where are the S&W Night Guards??
Posting it here as a general question and more folks hang out here.
Has anyone seen any at the gun shops or even purchased one?
Just wondering as I think I have seen only one, a long time ago??

I'm still wanting the 310NG at a LGS but that price tag makes me leave every time. I think I'm up to having bought four other guns there since I first saw it. I guess I'm baiting and switching myself...

I got over my NG wants when I went to buy a 327NG only to find that it was not moonclip ready - a deal killer for me. I spent less than the cost of a Happy Meal more and bought my second 2 5/8" PC627 UDR - I love that revolver. My second near-buy was the 325NG. I wanted a sibling for my 625JM that would be handier in HD application. Of course it was moonclip ready - .45 ACP's, it had to be. I ended up saving hundreds of denaro's - and bought a Governor - and don't laugh.... it only weighs 2 oz more - has the same Al/Sc alloy frame - a bit larger - and black SS cylinder - again, a bit larger. Did I mention that it chambers a few other calibers, too?
Anyway, I believe the NG idea was decent - but the prices and features didn't/don't match. There are less dear - or more feature-laden - examples available. That said, my local pusher seemingly has had little trouble keeping most of the NG models in his case... either that, or they really don't sell!

Here's my 325NG, along with it's sibling 325Sc. Great gun, love the big dot night site, and moon clips are great for rapid reloads!
Hope this helps,

That's what I was thinking. Too much money for what you get. Maybe that's why my local guy never ordered any for stock. I have never seen a used one.

I had the 329 NG, probably a bad choice for my first 44.
The gun was great, but with my inexperience in the caliber I was let's say less then effective.
I ended up getting rid of it but it did peak my interest in the 10mm and .357 models.

329NG
I own a 329NG and I love it. It compliments my 360 nicely. A bit pricey, agreed, but I've always been of the opinion that S&W is a bit pricey across the board which is why only 7 of my 32 handguns are S&W. I also think the Sc frames scare some people away as any google search will result in scary pictures of kabooms and the like. In all my years of gunplay, the only gun I ever had physically break on me was a Colt Agent that cracked its frame first time at the range. My 329NG has handled the hot loads from Buffalo Bore with no problem, although I don't intend to feed it a steady diet of those type rounds.

My LGS had five or so last week and had two others a month ago that had sold. They don't seem to move quickly, but they do seem to sell. I, for one, am saving my pennies for one. The 327, the 386, and the 325 all seem pretty cool. Decisions, decisions, decisions ...

I have both a 327NG and a 310NG. I will be picking up my new 357NG on Wednesday. I can not wait to shoot the new one.
They are great.
The 310NG is absolutely awesome. I have opened the chambers up so that it can also fire 10MM Magnum along with the 10MM Auto and 40S&W.

Hmmmm, now I am thinking that the Governor really is at least the Honorable Mention new Night Guard member... even if it's $679 MSRP is $300-$400 less than the current Night Guard MSRP's.
My Governor is shown with it's CCW stablemate - a 642. The Governor comes with smaller grips - those are .500 Magnum grips, SKU #294670000 $36.76 from S&W Accessories, which fit perfectly - and help with the recoil. Ugly, huh?

That same LGS had a Governor, too. It didn't feel too bad in the hand, but that long cylinder would take some getting used to.
Stainz, how is the accuracy with 45 ACP? A friend had theorized that the long jump from the cartidge to the rifling would degrade accuracy. It seems like it wouldn't make too much of a difference at typical self defense ranges. What is your experience?

Night guard 396
Hi,
I have just picked up my first Night guard, a Model 396 44 Special.
I bought it at the Cabelas near my home in Minnesota.
$629.99 LNIB appears unfired. That seemed a very good buy to me compared to what 696's go for, I have one of those too, but at what it weighs I can't bring myself to carry it very often, plus I just can't see myself ever getting as fond of the Nightguard looks wise.
I would always rather carry lighter if function is same.

I have the less enviable task of finding a NG315, a now discontinued model. There's just something... fateful about that that model...

I'd like a 315NG too but I have not been willing to pay the asking price for the ones on Gunbroker recently.

The Governor hits POA at 12yd with 230gr .45 ACP ball ammo (250 round UMC packs from Wally-World). My slightly detuned 230gr ball ammo, ~790 fps from 4" 625JM, hits an inch or so lower. 255 gr LSWC .45 Colt homebrews hit similarly. All three hit close enough to drop the smallest falling plates at the SPC range fairly reliably. My 250gr LRNFP .45 Schofield loads were a bit lower.
My local pusher had a new 396NG - ~$830-$860 like the others. I bought my 296 & 696 nearly nine years ago, so I have that 'need' covered. Still - $630 ANIB seems good to me.

There is only one high-volume dealer around me that has them, and of course, they are the normal high price. If they were a $150 less, I think they would sell a lot better, but their size scares a lot off ccw people away too, I think. Even though they are light weight, some of them are pretty big, and I think if people are looking for a home defense revolver, they are better off with an all stainless steel model, and for carry, most people will want smaller.
Has anyone carried one of these extensively? I'm curious how the finish on these has held up.

Wait, just how much is the mark up on that front sight and rubber grip on a NG over a Governor, or are they selling the Governor at a cut rate to eat into Judge sales???
Yet again...
Confused...

396NG
I recently acquired a New 396NG. Have put about 300 rounds thru it. Very pleased with the accuracy. Very easy to carry. Nice alternative to my 624 at over a pound lighter.
