hey fellows,

i'm been wanting to up grade the sight on my 629 classic and i'm really wanting some "night sight." my pistol has the red insert on the front sight. can anyone recommend a sight that will fit my pistol?

thanx

Meprolite has a kit which fits S&W 686 and 629 models with the red plastic insert. You replace the rear blade along with the windage screw and retaining nut (break the old one to remove it). Knock out the front plastic insert, clean up the slot, and replace it with the front Meprolite part.

I ordered mine from Midway USA - their part #489909. The front took a little filing for fit, and a touch of Loc-Tite green (sleeve retainer stuff) in the slot.

The green snake eyes are reassuring for home and personal defense, and nearly as visible as the original white dots on the range. The flashlight can wait until the BG is proned out.

+1 for the Meprolights. I've got them on several revolvers that rotate into the work "arsenal". They work great as night sights and give an improved daytime sight picture. I think the rear blade has a wider slot, so you get a little more daylight on each side of the front blade, when sighting. I really like them.

+1 as stated above. Practice the "Harries Technique"
