Default 460 Forcing Cone Erosion

I just bougt a 460V; built mid-2010. I've read alot on the internet about flame cutting and forcing cone erosion.

Is this an issue that has been resolved? If not, can someone recommend which ammunition they use that does not cause this?

Thank you.

I don't have any experience with the 460 Magnum but think if you factor in that level of recoil and cost of ammunition for it I rather doubt that you'll ever fire enough ammunition for this to really be a concern. However, this is based on the assumption that you'll be shooting standard weight bullets for the caliber and the B/C gap isn't excessive.

I think the vast majority of concerns are with reloads loaded with Lil Gun powder.

I know Freedom Arms warns highly against using Lil Gun in reloads in any caliber in their revolvers just specifically because of forcing cone erosion.

Shoot it and don't worry. Your X-Frame is warranted for life. If you notice a problem with the forcing cone, give S&W a call and they will send you a shipping label. Flame cutting is something that happens on all magnum revolvers. It goes so far(depending on ammo) and stops. Have yet to see a revolver weakened and fail because of flame cutting on the top strap. I have probably 5000 rounds thru my .460 since I got it back in 2006, and have yet to notice any serious forcing cone erosion.

Thanks Buck. Do you shoot any of the Hornady 200 grain rounds out of it? or any 200 grain round for that matter? I've seen some implications that the problem is with 200 grain bullets.
