617 NL 8-3/8-inch price check?
Not sure of the dash....think it's a 5. Has factory S&W rubber grips. A friend of mine has it in his possession and I have not driven out to see it yet. Can anybody help me with a price-check before I plop-down too much money?

I think you "done good" too. I think this guy will be pressing to push me above that....I just don't know exactly how far above that to go. I know the suggested retail is around $900....but that is for the new IL models.
I am thinking ....maybe $650-$700 tops?

i just got both of them, few months apart.it all depends on cond. and xtras. he did'nt hint at what he wanted for it?i'm paying 700 otd for a 4 in 617 no lock so the prices are up there, feel i'm doing ok there as well, box etc. i'd offer 550 to 650 w/out box and see how it goes,i've seen them sell for over 700

price is---????
the price on my 617-? 6inch 6 shot with a lock was $579.95 new in the box. i think some of the older no lock guns will go a little higher. pay a fair price just don't get scalped.

Responders....thanks to all. Obviously...I had a pretty good idea of what I thought it was worth. I know the going-rate for the 4 and 6-inch, I just was not sure of the "worth" of the 8-3/8 inch model. I think if a man finds a no-lock in any model, he should grab it if he can, but I just did not know about any pros-and-cons concerning the long barrel 617.
BUT...it's a no-lock and I think I can get it for $650-$700 OTD, which would be top dollar IMHO.
Thanks again!

8 5/8 value
In all my years of horse trading for fun and (occassionally) profit, I have noticed that most people want 4" or 6" revolvers and the longest tubes tend to be a bit harder for a seller to actually move. While often more scarce than the shorter bbls, there is usually a bit more room to haggle on an 8 3/8" Smith.

sqhead.....I failed to answer a question in your post. I am pretty sure he has $550 in it. He wants $700 and I could likely get him down to $650. Not everybody is wanting a weapon with a barrel that long and he likes to turn his stock over...I think that will give me some negotiating room....IF I really want one with a barrel that long. Can't really make-up my mind yet. But then again....don't we all need all the NL's we can get our hands on?

I just checked my records & I bought a really nice
617-4, 8-3/8 with box/case back in March
and I paid $625 OTD for it.
I felt that was a good price then,
so I snagged it.
A previous poster mentioned the LB's are not as popular...
I agree with that, but they are much scarcer,
and therefore don't pop up for sale very often.
IMHO even at $650-700 you wouldn't be doing too bad.
Good luck!

thank you snubbie for ur response, you will love the 8 3/8 barrel ,they shoot great and for a 22 they are like a piece of art to look at as well, like i said they don't come around everyday so snag one while you can, sometimes you fall into a good price, sometimes you pick things up for a great price it, all equals out in the end
