Picked up a 3" Model 24-3 yesterday
I bought it on GB before going on vacation and picked it up yesterday. The first time it was listed, I watched it and it closed without any bids at $695. When it was relisted, I decided I wanted it but some other joker started bidding on the last day and I ended up having to give $735 for it. With shipping, FFL fee and "use tax" (damn you, Governor Gregoire!), the total bill was $855. A bit more that I wanted, but what the hell.
I know you all hate pictures and if you've seen one, you've seen them all, so it here it is anyway!
No box, papers or holster (actually, it did come with an incorrect S&W blue plastic case for a model 642). Don't know if it was one of the Lew Horton guns or not, but does it really matter? SN is ALA2799. Has some finger prints and oil film, but I'd have to call the finish 99+%.
I do intend to give this gun some holster time for carry, so I'll need to get some quality leather for it. Not sure what style I'll go for, though.
Any and all comments are welcome, of course.
Rob

Very nice! I agree, that pesky sales tax adds a substantial amount to the final price. Just gotta focus on the upside, you now have a cool 24-3!

Very nice.
I have found that there is nothing better for N frame CCW than a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake.

2012 no more Christine! Let's hope sanity returns to WA.
Great lookin 24 3" Might check out the Galco Speedmaster, I have one for a 65 3" and a 586 4". Great holster rides high and close and quick to draw from. Easy to conceal all year.

Here's what I carry mine in, a Simply Rugged that takes up to 4" gun. I use for several of my N Frames. No thumb snap, but you never have to worry about the gun falling out of the holster.

Super cool new gun! Congratulations!
I do have to ask, what is a "use tax"? Is that just a sales tax? The $120 in additional costs was surprising.

Yeah, it is the same rate as sales tax, but charged on items purchased out of state but used in state. Technically, everyone buying anything online and mailorder out of state should be self-reporting and paying use tax to the WA Department of Revenue. But they also figured out that they have a captured audience where firearms are involved so they started enforcing collection of the tax by dealers for all transfers from out of state. 9.3% here.
Thanks for all the other comments, guys.

Love your 24 with the 3" bbl and 44 special. I'm ashamed to say this but am almost afraid to go to local gun shows. There is this dealer that keeps waving model 24's in front of me every time I show up. So far has cost me about $1500 for the last two. A 624 6.5" with box and goodies and a 24 4". Now all I have to see is a 24 3" bbl and I'm sunk. For some funny reason love the 44 special cartridge and its just a do everything chambering. Maybe its my turn at saying "resistance is futile" Frank
