Lightbulb 629-4 7 1/2" Custom Hunter III 1of160

I have performance shop Lew Horton custom 44. It has a slab barrel, magna ported, nonfluted cylinder and rosewood grips. No one has been able to value this beauty. I would appreciate the help. It was made in 1998.

Welcome bigoak. The value of any gun is determined by what a motivated seller is willing to sell for and what a motivated buyer is willing to pay.

If you are looking to sell start high and see what offers come in.

About your gun; it is a very well made pre-lock P.C. 629.
I had its brother in 6 in. I loved it. It tamed the 44 magnum cartridge quite well.
Your gun, with the long barrel only fits a certain type of purpose.
Probably hunting or just range trips.

The short barreled N frames are all the rage right now, with 3in. model 629s bringing $1200. and up.

I personally would value a 7.5" 629 at between $800. and $1000.
depending on condition and original case.
If I was selling this particular gun I would start at $1200. and expect to have it a while.

Good luck
Allen Frame

Greeting Bigoak,

I would tend to agree with AllenFrame. I also own several close relatives to your gun and paid $900-1,000 for each one over the past three or so years and all were about 99% condition in box.

Ref your question about appreciation. It all amounts to the collectability of a specific model, rarity, etc. It also amounts to whether you originally purchased your gun at a discount or at a premium. At $1,050 in 1998, I'd say thats about retail store price (with true MSRP sticker price being a higher number although I can't recall), so it's close to what i would call a premium on that model. It's a truly NICE PC gun, so that isn't anything to be ashamed of either, just that market prices aren't much higher relative to what you paid in 1998 IMHO in my experience.

Post a picture of your gun (and the product code from the box) just so we make a positive ID on the model. Here are mine that I am using as a proxy...(I am referring to the lower gun, which is a 6" Model made for RSR) Allen Frame has the same model.

Default 629-4 Custom Hunter III

Gentlemen,
This is my Lew Horton PC 44 mag. It is a 7 1/2 " ported slab barrel and has rosewood grips. The product code is 170094, the serial # is LHT00XX, and the spec ord is 7328. S&W says it is 1 of 160 made. It dob is 1998. It is 99%er. It has a Leupold Vari-X 2-7 mounted. I have shot 50 rounds out of her and killed 3 deer with 1 shot kills.
I might sell her if the price is right. Got one going to college in the fall.
The top gun is my trusty S&W 357.

I just purchased a custom hunter III today with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. The seller told me he only fired five rounds through it. Mine is serial # lht0060. The weights supplied are not installed in the gun. Does anyone have any knowledge as to how much difference is found when shooting with the weights installed?
