Default Would you consider this 27 uncommon?

This is a 27-3 8 3/8" in nickel

I know she not very high on the desirable scale, not being pinned or recessed and having that long pipe. However it seems that 27-3 werent made for all to long, nickel was only made for a few years. Also 8 3/8" barrels werent big sellers.

All of this combined Id guess that they didnt make all so many of them. Please notice, I didnt say "rare"

I also know shes not a big dollar gun, heck I bought it a month or so ago and have about $450 in it...

What do you guys think?

I think you did just fine. I don't know if I would consider any '80s era revolver a "collectible" in the sense that some prewar and early 20th century models are, so I would evaluate most of them as shooters even if it could be shown that there is a scarcity factor for particular configurations.

I happen to like long-tube revolvers (though not to the exclusion of other lengths), so I'd say you get a nice highly reflective shooter at an advantageous price.

Have you shot it yet? I bet it is going to astound you with its accuracy.

Default nickle's decline

I think nickle became significantly less common in the 80s when stainless took over. Odds are your example is rather scarce.

I like it a lot. The current fad for short barreled Smiths may or may not last, but either way that's one nice 27, and the price was definitely right. Ya done good.

You have an excellent revolver for concealed carry.......

Just kidding. A good buy of what could be a scarce revolver.

To me it would not matter the scarcity as after I was done with it in about 10 years or so and sold it I'd get what I paid and maybe more. That's the only "win-win" situation I know of.

I think you did well on the price. In my collection sits a 27-2, 57, 29-2 all in nickel and all 8 3/8s length. I also have a 25-5 8 3/8s length, but it is in blue. For me the long tubes balance better in my hand. They are sort of like a bigger gal, just a little more to love.

I'd agree that after the stainless guns started to come from the factory in greater numbers , nickel guns seem to have fell from grace. But the stainless 27 , or 627 if you will , didn't seem to have been a priority. I've rarely , if ever , seen 8 3/8" barreled 627s.

Default great shooter too

At one time I owned four M-27-2s in different bbl lengths and took them all to the range. I estimated the the long bbl would shoot the best but I did not expect it to be THAT much better than the others! What a keeper!
