Promotion/Christmas Gun
I am getting promoted to Captain next month and my wife has approved the purchase of a 627 Pro as a dual promotion/Christmas gift. I'm going to place the order next week and have it shipped to an excellent veteran owned shop here in Colorado Springs who also happens to have the second best price right behind a pawn shop I don't have experience with. Main use will be USPSA, ICORE, and Steel Challenge but it'll also come with me on hiking and hunting adventures. I really like the fact that I can carry a spare moonclip loaded with light .38 reloads for grouse and rabbits while archery hunting. The number of times I kicked up a group of grouse hiking back to camp this year was insane. It'll also replace my Glock for HD once I get proficient on it so I don't have to rotate magazines anymore. I'm starting this thread as a place to hang updates but does anyone have a recommendation for a good leather holster for this?

I suggest you look at Garrett Industries leather lined kydex. Combines the form holding of kydex with the easy on the finish of leather.

Congratulations on your upcoming promotion (Air Force, Army, other?). Just to be clear on recommendations, are you talking IWB, OWB, chest rig, flap holster, etc.? Great pick for a meaningful mementos ... up I-25 a bit along the Front Range.

Model 567 Custom Fit Belt Loop Holster - The Safariland Group SAFARILAND LINK
I use a Safariland 567 holster for my S&W 627 Pro (4" barrel).
edit: It might be part number: 567-12-411-225

Wait, so if you're making Captain and need permission from your wife to purchase a new firearm, then what does that make her, the Chief? ;p

First and foremost: Congratulations on your promotion, Captain!
Leather: Since you're going all out on your commemorative revolver, I'd say go all out on its leather. Make it memorable. Go custom with a flair: belt, holster, cartridge carrier.

She's the household finance officer. I've gotten a gun the last two years for Christmas but my budget was expanded this year.

She is Household 6, AKA "The Commander", and is ALWAYS one rank above the husband.

Isn't that the truth and in this case the Household 6/8 (Commander and Finance officer). She says she's the General anyways so I've got some catching up still.
For holsters I'm not looking for anything fancy. Though it may be a gift it will still be a working gun and will get shot and carried. I want quality but not fancy.

At 43.6oz according to the S&W website, it ought to be super mild with .38s and still mild with full snort .357s.
Handsome gun.
Hope you have more promotions in your future. Don

Congratulations on your upcoming promotion! I can recommend Lobo Gun Leather for a holster. Check out the Combat Classic or, if you're wanting to carry concealed, the Enhanced Pancake.

Homie,
I'm tracking I can't shoot Grouse until 1SEP and bunnies until 1OCT. Handguns permitted.
two-bit cowboy,
I do only get promoted to Captain once, unless hypothetically I were to transfer to the Navy where a Captain is the same as an Army Colonel. However, If I were to get a nice holster and scuff it up, I'd be pretty miffed. I may het something nice in the future but for now the priority will be something that can gain it's own briar patch customization and I'll have some hunting tales to tell about it. It isn't as much commemorative as it is something I've wanted and is now approved for purchase. Right now I'm thinking a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake in the oxblood color. From everything I've seen, it's a quality but simple holster that will last.
STCM,
I'll just say something that was beaten into me as a Cadet... Beat Navy.

This lieutenant says: "Congrats, sir!"
Sounds like a good purchase, though I'm more partial to a 627PC 5" myself.

Congrats on promotion and the new 627.
I was gonna suggest the SR SD pancake but you beat me to it.

Thank you for your service and congrats! What a nice present from the general. What are you getting when you make major?
While I can appreciate wanting leather for classic sake, I'd stick with kydex for competition. Particularly when it gets damp. You don't want a sticky draw on the clock. I went with the Blade Tech for my 627.

Lobo makes extremely nice leather holsters-a family operation with friendly and prompt service. I have one for my Performance Center Pro Series Model 60. I highly recommend them for a handsome (but not ostentatiously fancy) serviceable, every day leather holster.

I am going to get something Kydex for the gun games but like leather so much more for the woods. I think I posted on your post over on Enos.

I'd also recommend Lobo. Prompt courteous service and a quality product with lots of options. They just might be able to dress it up with the Army or your Unit logo.

I made Captain twice. The first time was in the Army in 1984. The second time was when I took over the security detail for city hall in 2014. I retired for the 3rd time back in August.

Quality leather
Another vote for Lobo Gunleathers. Belt and holster with thumb snap for field carry. This is an N Frame, happens to be a .44. Affordable and high quality. Lobo hisself is a respected forum member who recently retired and sold his business to another family. I have two originals and this one from the new outfit. Affordable quality and good service from both.

Since the most use it will see is gun games, there are many things going against 6 shots these days.

Placed the order this morning at 615 from Grabagun. I was wary of buying online but no one in town carries them and the price is $100 less than anyone else I have found. At 845 I get an email from Grabagun with shipping information and it should be here by Friday. Now to can get to the fun part of a new gun and that is reloading and eventually getting molds to cast for a new caliber.

Were you really "tired" of buying on line, or were you "wary"?
Sent in good humor, LT; I couldn't resist.
Congrats on your buy!

Cowboy,
Taken in good humor and edited. I'm pretty excited about this purchase. Now I just need to make some ammo, get more moonclips, make mooning and demooning tools, and find some time to hit the range.

Anschutz- congrats on your promotion from a retired curmudgeon 05. Fort Carson was my first duty assignment in the mid 80s. Really enjoyed Colorado back then.
I have a 627 pro. One of my favorite wheelguns. Shoot it occasionally in USPSA. Had a second cylinder modified to 9x21 and can shoot 9mmx19, 38 super, 380. At normal USPSA ranges, I found no change in POI from my 38 spl loads with 9 Luger.
Enjoy the gun, shoot the snot out of it. If you ever find yourself at JBLM ( Ft Lewis) drop me a pm & I can get you linked up with the shooting sports out here.

Congratulations on the promotion! Have carried a Model 28-2 ... either six inch or four inch ... many miles. Very much prefer a Bianchi 111 Cyclone for outdoor use. It can be worn strong side with excellent comfort. I prefer it cross draw as it allows one to get in and out of a car easily. Also makes carry/use of the revolver easier during cold weather when a heavy coat must be worn. HTH. Sincerely. bruce.

Congrats on your promotion Sir! For holsters, I have the Speed Beez N frame holster. It works with my 625 PC and 627 Pro, for leather, my holster maker from AZ made me one. I’ll get the exact name when I get back from TDY. It was worth the wait, not only for functionality, but for looks as well. It’s cordovan leather with elephant skin. The stock grips are gone, it wears Hogue grips without the finger grooves for gun games, and Herrett Jordan Troopers for when I used it as a woods gun. Grizzly Bears in Montana and Wyoming warrant the M69 or my 10mm 1911.

Congrats on the promotion, your service, and your excellent choice of a revolver. I bought a 627 Pro several years ago, wonderful gun, everyone that picks it up & shoots it loves it. Plenty accurate right out of the box.
I went with a much more utilitarian holster for mine, intended simply to hold it when in the woods or walking back & forth to my short pistol range at the cabin. I bought a Hunter, marked 45103 -1113 on the back, at a LGS shortly after I bought the 627. I think it was in the $35-40 range at that time, and probably still is; $37 at Natchez right now. It is currently designated as a Size 3 VersaFit holster on the Hunter website.

Congratulations on the promotion. It's good that Lipstick 6 has authorized the purchase of the new 627. Now what are you going to get when you make Major?

Why do you feel that you need to rotate the magazines of your HD Glock?

I've had issues when leaving a magazine loaded long term (1 year plus) . It may have been reloads causing issues but I switch which magazine is loaded about once a month to ensure I don't have issues.

I've got to give a shout out to Grab a Gun and UPS. From the time I hit submit order to the time I confirmed the serial number was less than 36 hours. I've got to do some chores and work this weekend but I may sneak out to shoot some if I get ammo loaded. I've never shot a mooned revolver but I made some dummies after setting my dies up and got it down pretty quick with 38 specials. I may run a match or to with specials and then order the short colt brass. Obligatory pictures below.
