Very impressive DA if you weren't staging the trigger

I had a 60-4 in the 90s I bought new and loved, had a great time shooting and packing in WY around the local hiking trails. Found I was carrying other guns and +P was a bit light so mistakenly sold it around 2000. Have been looking ever since, but haven't found a used one at any shows for reasonable and new is expensive, but was my plan. Happened to find a lightly used 60-15 on the local gun trader, so jumped on it at $450, new with all papers and box. Lucky day and I'm a happy guy. Off to the range this weekend.

New to this site but really enjoy the posts. In 1986 or early 1987 I purchased a new S&W 60-4 in SST, fully lugged, 3" barrel, adjustable rear sights, 38. special (only) and rubber grips that look like Hogues. It is a nice straight shooter and I am glad I didn't wait a while and go for the .357 as I learned I don't do well with the noise, muzzle flash, and kick, though rubber grips sure help a lot. Recently I have been trying to find out more about it but even the 3rd edition of the S&W Bible has almost nothing on the -4. The Model says Mod 60-4, and serial number has a prefix and goes like this: CA E72XX. A dealer told me that it was a special California edition but I did not believe him for a minute. Can anyone help with any info? Thank you, Milrose

Seems like any desirable vintage S&W starts at $700. I waited quite awhile to find my 60-10, so I couldn't quibble. It was meant to bump my Ruger SP101 out of my collection, but I haven't done that yet. The 60 Pro will go also, after I am confident the 60-10 is the superior choice for me. The 60 Pro leads badly with what I have tried so far. With a couple other guns acquired in the same time frame, I haven't spent enough time with the 60-10 evaluating loads and leading. My notes say the recoil is "ferocious" and that I will need custom loads and lighter bullets for it. Shooting 38 is not being considered. I would sell it first. I already have a beautiful 36-1.

Between the last time this thread was active and the reintroduction of it, I've had the opportunity to purchase a NIB Model 60-4. Other than the factory Firestone grips I loved it just the way it was, and with a set of Thai ebony smooth combats it has become one of my all time favorites.
Froggie
PS The glare on the under lug makes it look like a slabbed barrel, but it is a round under lug like a little bitty 686.
