I do know that the K/L Crimson Trace Grips fit on a Governor the same way they fit a 686 or 66.

The X-frame .460/.500 Magnum grips, made by Hogue for S&W and available from S&W Accessories, fit fine. They cover and pad the backstrap, helping with the recoil.
S&W Accessories (1-800-331-0852) also sells the appropriate sized holsters, by DeSantis, for your Governor:

The trigger on mine was pretty good right out of the box, but my gunsmith made it even better with a trigger job. It is now even lighter and smoother making the Governor slicker than ever.

Mine fits and shoots perfect so I did nothing other than get a Simply Rugged Holster.

I wish I could get my Governor worked on! A spec of compassion would help tremendously.

Call S&W - their revolver 'Master Action' job was ~$165, inc overnite s/h from/to your door. They may not suggest a hammer spring change due to the harder primer hits required bt the .410 shells.
Merry Christmas!

Hi Stainz,
The young man there in Springfield said that they don't do trigger jobs on the Governor. I had bought four Governors last week, cleaned them and then noticed that the trigger pull on two of them were not, for me, acceptable. With the help of Sportsman's Warehouse, who measured their trigger pulls at 12 to 14 pounds each, sent them back to S&W for checking, to make sure that whatever was making them so darned difficult, even in single action, would meet their factory specs...
BTW, factory trigger pull on a Governor is supposed to be in the 6 to 8 pound area, 8 pounds being the max...
If I didn't need these for special needs, I'd go with a 625 JM, 325, or 625... The older I get, the more I want revolvers...

Hi Stainz,
Just ordered two of the X-Frame grips for two of my Governors, as well as two of the DeSantis holsters, L&H.
I've been a big fan of the late Ed McGivern, for many years. Was smart enough to buy his books in hard cover, and gave one to my best friend. Still have mine, but it's pretty well falling apart. Two years ago, I bought three of the paperback reprints, and still have two of those... Today, I downloaded Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting for my iPad3, notebook, tower, and Kindle Touch... In Vietnam I learned to never be without good books to read, and if necessary, reread...
I've been looking at McGivern's holsters for years, and it hit me... Why not look for holsters like he would have used? Well, I looked all over the internet, and man-o-man, he used all kinds... So, I found a copy of the 3 DVD set by John Bianchi's, "THE ART & SECRETS OF ADVANCED WESTERN HOLSTER MAKING."
Got my copy here:
The Angling Bookstore - Search
Got it for up to $40.00 less than some places...
If I can't find one that best suits me, by way of his technique, I'll make my own...
Have you tried The Revolver Supply Company, LLC?
The Revolver Supply Company. Supplies for the revolver enthusiast
George Martin is a great gentleman, full of knowledge and experience... I'm looking forward to buying his clip holders... So far, I've been using an inch of foam in the bottom of large HKS speed loader pouches... Much faster than speedloaders... I'm a BIG FAN of full-moon clips now... Have to make a dump pouch for the empties...
I got fabulous deals on full-moon clips, 1/3-moon clips, and gear for loading and unloading them... Absolutely super! Got 200 full-moon clips, and 100 1/3-moons... Will have to get more of their superb full-moon clips in stainless steel... Only got 10 for try-out, and know I know... Seems I'll be shooting more .45acp than .45 Colt, or .410...
Well, take care, and again, thanks for leading the way...

What was the difference between factory issue and after the gunsmith?

Good Morning, mag318!
I was surprised/stunned when S&W's Performance Center said, yesterday morning, that they don't do trigger jobs on the Governor. I sent in two of them, as even they admitted that trigger pulls of 12-14 pounds were not right. They said average was 6-8 pounds, with 8 being the max, for factory specs.
Did your gunsmith ever say what he did, to slick yours up, to your satisfaction? Did he measure the before and after trigger pull poundage?
I'd sure like to know what he did, to make it better...
My own, unsubstantiated, theory is that the weight and length of the cylinder may make it difficult to balance. I'm not aware of any problems that the more loose tolerances on Taurus' Judge may have caused problems... True, only five chambers to the Governor's six, and a slimmer cylinder, to boot...
I'm glad you're happy with the work done. For me, these revolvers occupy a particular niche, which usually happens when the old saw, "all engineering is a compromise" comes into play. That goes for tasking assets, too...
Thanks for your time and kind consideration.
Any, and all, information, gratefully accepted.
Have a great day.
