M686 Polished
I showed you guys my 686 I purchased as a shooter a few days ago. It had a few scratches and scars on it, but being SS I figured I could improve things a bit. See below for before and after pics. Enjoy!

Thanks for looking. I used Mothers Mag polish and a microfiber cloth. You can buy both at any auto store or at Wally World. It takes a couple hours but the improvement is worth it. Unfortunately the pictures do not show how much better it looks. Give it a try.

Wow, looks great ! Can you do mine too ? ( Just kiddin' )
How did you keep the polish away from the bead blasted area on top of
the barrel and frame ? Very carefully I'll bet..
That is a fine lookin' gun !

Does that Mothers actually take out scratches or just make the metal shiney ?

Try it. Not hard at all. You can do it while watching your favorite sporting event on TV!

No the stocks were just cleaned with a light oil.

Thanks, you have to be a little careful to keep it off the parts you do not want to polish and also clean it out of all the nooks and crannys.

It will take out the scratches as long as they are not to deep.

Nice work got2hav1. My 686-3 could do with some spruceing up. I guess it's time to grab some mag polish, a microfiber cloth, and go to town on her. I hope I can achieve a similar final product.

Buffing
Try using a buffing wheel and compound. Ace Hdwr has 'em. Put it on your grinder and have at it. Hold on tight and wear protective gear, they like to fly around, but it's lots of fun and if you go slow and easy, pro results are pretty easy to obtain. Don't start on you best gun, better an old beater. You will be amazed at the results. 1000 grit wet dry with WD 40 first will get rid of sratches. Don't round any edges and cover anything you don't want buffed with duct tape.

Here's an old (1994) police trade in after a little buffing and new Altamont silver/black grips. Gun has smoother action than some of my safe queen Smithies. Locks up tight and passes all the tests.
