Registration Card
I just pruchased a 329PD and am curious if I have to go ahead and send in the registration information now in case I ever have to send it in for repair on their dime? I know this isn't required with Ruger, but have no idea about Smith.
Thanks in advance

Just register it online and save the card.

I personally suggest you do it, but I also like to relay what a rep told me once. I called Smith about this very thing and asked them to run the numbers on a few guns I had and NONE of them were in the system. I asked what they would do if I wanted to send one in for warranty work and was told they would honor you as the original purchaser, unless they had something on record to indicate otherwise. The warranty card is mostly for marketing purposes, but saying that....I still send mine in on the ones I plan to keep, but don't on the ones I may want to resell. I have discovered that finding an un-mailed warranty card in the box can sometimes sweeten the deal....whether it means anything or not.

I sent one in about 5 or 6 years back, then I got a marketing survey card in the mail a few months later. Would you be interested in this, that, the other thing....etc. It also had a place for suggestions. I'd say 1/3 to 1/2 of the guns they were surveying came to be in the next few years afterwards, as did at least some NO IL guns as I wrote for my suggestion.

According to S&W sending in the registration card or registering online activates the Lifetime Service Policy. However, I've never heard of an original owner that hasn't registered being denied lifetime service. On the other hand, it's quite possible that registering may deactivate lifetime service for subsequent owners, because they are not the original buyers/owners and S&W has a record of the original owner. Although, I never heard of a subsequent owner being denied lifetime service either. Sending in a warranty card or registering online is legally not required for using a products warranty, such as the 1 year warranty that S&W offers. I'm not quite so sure about the legalities of registration concerning the Lifetime Service Policy.
In the worst possible case, not sending in the card may not allow the original owner access to free lifetime service. On the other hand, sending in the card will allow the original owner free lifetime service but deny it to subsequent owners making the gun less valuble on the open market if the owner wishes to sell it.

That's because Ruger gives no warranty whatsoever on new guns. Registering your new Smith will also expedite any safety recall on your model/gun.

I bet all they do with the registration card is use the info to sign you up for propaganda. As someone else noted you can sign up online, or not at all. Again it's just info used for marketing I'm betting.
They will honor your warranty without it.
