Your Opinion on 629
This is like asking the kids if I should make cookies....
Found a 629 Unfired, with orginal box, papers and cleaning brush/rod.
Asking Under $750.00 Mid 80's serial number.
My problem is snatch this up now and wait MONTHS if not a year for what I really want...Model 29 or 57 or bite it and get this revolver now. I do have the 629 on my list, as I enjoy SS firearms.
It was someone's safe queen and I am not sure if I will keep it that way, but it does have all it's orginal paperwork and box which is a Huge plus for me.
What would you do?

Dash number and barrel length would help. Could be a sought after 3 inch Horton?
It's more than likely a -1.

That would make it pre -1982. The 4 inch no dash guns go for crazy money, as much as $1000+ NIB. I'd guess that 750 is a decent price for a no dash 629 NIB 6 inch, especially considering the price of the new ones. Better if you can chew them down somewhat The gun should be pinned and recessed unless it's a late one.

I hunted for years with a 629 and found it accurate, weather safe, and easy to maintain. A blued gun might have more "sex appeal" but Stainless is REALLY your friend.
As for just shooting, I'd still prefer the 629. With that said I admit to owning a 4" 29-3 which I enjoy greatly.
As far as value........ anyone see and pre classic, pre lock Smiths dropping in price. Better than gold.
That's my thoughts on the topic. Good luck.

I think the entire package as described, AND the fact it’s a “no dash” makes the price very reasonable. I’m assuming it’s pinned and recessed?

Serial is AHY****.
I had a problem with this yesterday and another member said he thought that dated later than 85'. That would be to late for a pinned barrel?
Could the seller be wrong in telling me No dash?

The 629 no dash is a good revolver to buy because they will only increase in value as they are quite rare.
629 no dash 6 inch with kurac Coco Bolo grips
629 no dash with 8 3/8 inch barrel quite rare
629 no dash 4 inch barrel

If the opportunity presents itself...go for it. You don't want to be sorry down the road.

LOL, That top picture is the very picture I found on this forum when I first looked into maybe buying that 629 (629-1).
Love the Look for sure!
I had to pass on that 629-1. Hopefully I don't regret it, but I honestly think I will find another.
On my long list of S&W's to own someday, the m629 came third behind #1 m29 and #2 m57. If I don't stick to my guns (pardon the pun) I will never have the revolvers that I really enjoy.

Hold out for what you really want.
The 629-1 is very nice gun, but if what you really desire is a 29, keep looking. When you find a nice one, don't hesitate. Buy it!
And...post some pix here for us.
