I am looking at one of these with a 6.5 inch barrel, bluing is like new on the entire gun except for the right side of the barrel right at the tip. The action is very tight with very very little play, I mean the cylinder hardly moves at all.
It includes the original blue box, all the paper work and cleaning kit with sight adjustment screw driver.
What would an expected price for this gun ?

I guess model 29-3 the barrel is not pinned and the cylinder is not recessed. Was the 29-3 not as good of model as the 29, 29-1 or 29-2 ?

They are excellent revolvers. Expect to pay only a little less for it than for a 29-2 in comparable condition. As to a 29 or 29-1,that's a whole 'nother ball of wax!

The Model 29-3 marked the transition away from pinned barrels and recessed cylinders (magnums and .22 Cal).

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Model 29-3. They lock up just as tight as their earlier brethren; and I doubt that the barrel will unscrew without the pin.

Colt and the rifle makers used the "crush fit" method for years, and S&W adopted this method in the mid-1950's. The barrel is made of a steel a bit softer than the frame. Tightening the barrel after a certain point forces the seating. In the early 1980's, S&W eliminating the pinning step.

The recessed cylinders were a holdover from the days of over-engineering. The recessed area gave the head and rim a bit of extra support. The elimination of this feature was a money saver. However, it's a bit ironic that Colt added this feature to its King Cobras and Anacondas after S&W discontinued the feature.

Thank you for the replies
Would a 29-3 in near perfect condition with original blue box, paper work and cleaning kit be priced right at 640.00 out the door ?
The cylinder and lock up is very very tight and the bluing is near perfect with only a slight wear on the right side of the barrel tip.
