Comments on 627 8 shot
I have a itch for a S&W Model 627 8 shot 357 revolver which is surprising for me since I detest the lock.
I came up dry during a search for comments so I started a new thread looking for feedback on how well this model has held up and any accuracy or q.c. issues?

Sorry, no experience with 'em. Never cared for N-frame .357's. N's should be chambered in a caliber that begins with a "4". L-frames on the other hand are ideal for the 357 Mag...............

627 8-shot .357 Magnum
I have three, one in the 4 inch Pro Series and two in the "Bloodwork" guns one fluted, one nonfluted cylinders. No issues as far as quality. Range work I carry the 4 inch gun if I'm playing office B-tch the short barrel gun is what I use.
N frames in .357 Magnum! Let's count the ways, First Registered Magnums, Pre-27, Model 27, Model 28, Model 520,
and the Model 627,Model 327. Did I miss any?Opps 327NG?

I have the S&W 2 5/8" 8-shot 357 revolver and I love it. Very accurate! Totally reliable. Really like the moonclips. Having a Milt Sparks holster and belt made for it. Like it so much I'm buying the same gun in 41 magnum. Dennis

I have an 627PC with the 5" barrel, best shooting of all my magnum revolvers, any make. The only handgun I have shot that's more accurate is a Colt Delta Elite, 10 mm, accurate as hell and barely comes off target in recoil.

SW 627 PRO 8-shot
I liked this one so much that I kept one for myself.... I pretty much have all the guns I want already, but these just fit good in my hand.

I've got one of the 5" guys and it's my ONLY lok gun. I liked the idea of 8 shots and clips. Also liked the gold bead front siight, which is EASILY changed to a ramp, patridge or whatever. And with the modern upgrades to them they are probably about as strong a .357 N frame as one can find.
Mine was a dissapointment concerning the trigger, but half an hour with my Certified S&W Armorer and it's tuned where I like it.
Very accurate for sure! I've had zero issues ,with probably 800 rds or more of mixed .38 +P and magnum loads through it so far.

My last to give up S&W will have to be, for sentimental reasons, my first-ever S&W - a 625MG in .45 Colt, bought new as a shocker of a gift for me by my wife 8/02. Next to the last to go as I age will likely be my 4" 617 - too much frugal fun. I cannot imagine life without this plinker. Considering the practical nature, my 4" 627 Pro or one of my two PC627 UDRs would be third - great home, car, personal, woods, etc, protection. Dependable, too... thousands upon thousands of rounds sent downrange via that 4" 627 Pro since I bought it new 5/08. Probably nearly as many total sent downrange via both UDRs, bought 4/10 and 10/10. My only complaint was on the fit of the OEM Eagle boot grips on both UDRs. When S&W did get me some Eagles that fit, I found that I didn't like them anyway as they were too small! The grips my UDRs sport now are just right in size!
The Lobo leather is great - the Wally World belt slurps! Here is one of my UDRs with the 627 Pro - and a speedloader and moonclip - fast reloads help.
It would be tough having to decide which of my 627s to keep, if I had to cut back. Obviously, the IL doesn't deter me, as I have sixteen with it! In fact, my first x8 627 was an early JM 5" PC627 V-Comp, which I sold 9/10 - to fund my second UDR! It had the best DA trigger I have ever experienced, the PC Shop once upon a time did that, but the dovetailed front sight and comp/blank, something else to clean, and it's generally clunky/poor balance didn't win high marks with me. Lovely gun - sacrificed to purchas another UDR - and I am much happier! My 627s have all had just my wimpy .357 Magnums - hardly deserving the title of a .38 Special, but that's me - they are certainly capable. Besides, I expect any wear iems to be available from S&W, etc, for some time.

I have the 627 Performance Center V-Comp eight shot with a 3" barrel. Beautiful well made gun. I can't say how it shoots, because it has never been fired. It is large and heavy, which is why I prefer a seven shot L frame.

The 627 Pro is fantastic. Buy it. Forget the lock. Everyone else at the range will be nearly as awestricken as you. Amazing accuracy. Takes any low or high powered .38/357 moon-clipped, speed-loaded, or hand fed. Cannot wait to get my own hand loader for this gun. Its worth every penny. My police and military friends wish they could carry it because its so accurate and easy too shoot. Amazing trigger. Hunting, self-defense, home invasion, competition, target practice, and competion. It does it all in one package. I carry mine outside the waistband or under a jacket or shirt. Perfect.

For me this was money well spent.
I would like different grips (but don't know what) and I need a good holster.
My 627 makes me look good shooting...and it's weight is very good at taming the recoil.
Trading FRN's for a 627 is a solid investment, I would not hesitate.

I have a 10 year old 627 PC with 5" barrel. No problems, no issues. Good gun. Having said that, I don't shoot it a lot. Not legal for IDPA shooting, not practical for IPSC, and a little heavier than I like for a 357......even though my beloved first-ever handgun is a 6.5" 27 no dash which I shot extensively back in the late 60s.

I have never understood why S&W was so slow to introduce the 8 shot .357. It would have made a great cops gun when the revolver was king.
Thank you for the links. I don't know why I could not search for them.

The 627 Pro Series is a great 357. Mine came with a good smooth trigger, and splendid accuracy. It sees service occasionally, and the 8 shot capacity is perfect for this size revolver. It has a couple thousand rounds through it, so far, with no complaints.

I ordered a 627 PC awhile back and start the ten day DROS period next week. Very impressive firearm. Need to order some moon clips for it.
