Whats a Model 27-2, 357 worth?

I only on one hand gun, so far.
I know they have books to look up the value, but I only need 1 gun.

Can some one tell me what a Model 27-2, in 357 caliber is worth?

It is in great conditon. I am wanting to get and XDM, so I want to sell or trade it.

In like condition different barrel lengths usualy command different prices. What barrel length are you interested in? Also we need more detailed info and pictures to even atempt a estimate. "Great condition" means far different standards to one person than the next.
 
In addition to condition of the gun having the box, paperwork, grips, and tools as well as the presentation case can cause a gun to increase in value to many collectors. It can also make a difference as to when it was produced to some collectors. Now as much as I hate to see a good wheel gun get traded out for a plastic gun, this is probably a good place to help it find a good home and a fair price.
 
It has an 8 3/8 " barrel.
I have the original box, the original screw driver. It has the original wood grips, I have had pacmeyer grips on it the whole time I have owned it.
I have a cleaning rod, not sure if it is the original and brush. I will get the serial # and some pics up.
A local pawn shop offered me $600.00.
I need a gun to carry, and this one has just been sitting in my gun cabinet for the past 22 years, so it makes sense to get something I can use.

Odds are pretty darn good that if the Pawn shop offered $600 for it that it is worth quite a bit more, as they have a tendency to low ball to preserve their profit percentages. If selling is a must I'd put it up on the forum or an auction site and you'll be able to get something more like retail price for it.

Having all the original stuff is definitely a plus and I would assume that the pawn shop offered no more than 75% of what they think that they can re-sell it for. One other option you have here is offering it for trade on the forum so that you can make sure it will go to a good home!
 
If you are looking to trade it for an XDM you should walk away with some cash. XDM is a fine gun but kinda a common "dime a dozon" modern semiauto...your 27-2 should be worth more if its in the condition you describe. I sold a LNIB XDM for $500 so you should be in a good trading position.

If I trade it, it will be for like value, thats why I am trying to fiqure out the value. I will get some pics up tomorrow, I have been busy with taking care of 3 mothers days this weekend.

I am in Florida, if it matters for the value?

I know the gun is worth more than a used xdm or other similar gun, when I said trade, I did not mean even or striaght up.

I appreciate you guys looking out for me and your honesty.

My brother has the gun, and I am getting back tomorrow so I will post pics and then I can see where I am at based on the condition.

Hi John, we sure do like 27-2's here on the Forum. If you include the first few digits of the SN one of us could help narrow down its shipping date. Good thing you saved all the extras - box, grips, tools, papers. Those things add value for sure. Can't wait for the pictures.

As with most revolvers the longer the barrel the less it's worth when compared to shorter barrels in the same model. That said I think $700 for your gun is a good price and I paid $750 for the one I have.

Local pro shop has a similar nickle version of a long barreled 27-2. It has an asking price of $669, and has been sitting in their case for a few months with no buyers.
 
I am in Lutz, Fla.
I know this is a great gun, I just do not have a need for it. I just got my CWP license, and need to get a gun to carry.
I am married with 3 teen aged kids. If I get a gun to carry for a good price, I might have enough to get a 22, so I can take them and teach them to shoot and be comfortable around guns. I have taken them hunting with me and they have shot a few guns, but if we spend time at the range, I think they would enjoy that.

Can someone tell me how they would rate the condition?

I have heard that you can tell the year and where the gun was made by the serial #?

I am going to read up on the classifieds, so I can sell it. I would rather a gun lover get it than a pawn shop, I just want to get a fair price.

It looks like its in excellent condition, but it is the hardest of the bbl lenghts to find a buyer for. You should be able to move it pretty quick if you price it at $700-750, although that might not quite break the temptation price barrier in many potential buyers.
 
You are the guy in Lutz that is selling it on Armslist right?

$700 is at the top of what you really could get I think. For reference, I got my only 27-2, a 6" with box and stuff for $650, in similar condition. The 8" barrel ones go for less. There are a few of them around Tampa sitting in pawn shops and gun stores for quite a while, asking in the $600-$650 range. I just looked on Gunbroker and in the past 2 weeks, zero 8" barrel 27's have sold, although MANY have been listed.

Just out of curiosity, what pawn shop offered you $600 for that? I have some things I need to take to them.
