Can someone provide me with information on this particular revolver? I just traded for one that a dealer friend of mine recently acquired. TIA

It's a lightweight, K frame .38 Special of recent production, marketed as a home defense/carry gun. The "3" means an alloy frame, and the "15" that it is similar to the steel-framed model 15. I believe the NG series was just discontinued by the factory.

Have you shot it, and how do you like it?

I have yet to take actual possession of it, as I reside in Alabama and my dealer friend is in Tennessee. I got tired of 'waiting for the world to end', and in a 'weak moment', traded my 'cobbled-together' AR15 (Bushy/RRA hybrid) for it. I hope I didn't make a HUGE mistake......

dogsoldier OP
From what I have been able to find and read about the night guard series
of revolvers the 315 was discontinued early which is not a bad thing for other then the consumer. Frame and size/weight shoot-ability it probably is the most balanced of the night guard series. the 315 is not seen much on the used market and seem to hold value or bring a premium. for a ccw it does it all k frame 6 shot what is not to like. It is a stealth version of the 2" model 10 and 64 with a see in the dark front sight. The 2"-3" steel k frames have almost a cult like following for ccw sort of the cats meow.

Now if you can find a dozen boxes or so of Federal Nyclad 125gr JHP 38s to pair up with it that would be perfection!!! Ya done good with a 315!!!
I would not hesitate today if a local dealer had one.

Oh if you find those Federal Nyclads and wish to share your good fortune remember this post

S&W 315

I have the 315 NG, and love it better than any revolver I have owned. The 315 .38 line was discontinued because apparently everyone went for the .357 model (why buy a .38 when you can have both?) Anyway, S&W only made 576 of the 315, so you own a true collectable IMHO. I have no doubt you will love it.

I happen to have 508 of those 576 made.

You will like it. I am wearing mine as I type this in a Lobo Enhanced Pancake. It is about like carrying my 442 Pro. It is so light you hardly notice it on the belt.

I will probably swap out the Goodyears for a set of S&W Checkered Rosewood Boot Grips on my next Midway order.

The Nyclads mentioned above are not bad, however I just did a search for them and came up Out of Stock everywhere that I checked. I am carrying Speer 38 Special +P Short Barrel 135 grain Gold Dot HP ammo in mine, with a couple reloads in Safariland Comp II speedloaders carried in Safariland CD-2 Carriers.

Enjoy it. Even though it is probably going to be a collectors treasure, I am still going to carry mine in my in my Concealed Carry rotation along with my 310NG, 3" 66-2, 3" 625, and 442 Pro Moonclip. I did not get any of them as Safe Queens, I got them to shoot.

Enjoy

Bob

315 NG

I just walked into a gun shop in the small town of Loretto, TN. Low and behold I noticed a nice looking SW revolver I was unfamiliar with. It was a BNIB 315NG on clearance for $749. I wasnt able to Walk out with It, but i couldnt put it on layaway fast enough. Not a scratch, even the Big Dot NS glow bright.

My 8 shot 327 NG (357 Mag) is an incredible gun and has long ago taken permanent residence on my nightstand. It is relatively light weight for an N frame but handles all loads with ease. I think you’ll love the 315!

A pic of the 327 wearing its Culina Birdseye ......

I have looked for one for a good price for many years. I bought the 325 NG and it didnt group at all for me, so I sold it to another guy who sent it back to S&W as it had an improperly bored cylinder. He is very happy now.
I wanted the 315 pretty badly and still look for them. The high price gas kept me away. I have many AR15s and would trade any one of then for a 315NG.
If you tire of it, please consider me.
