Default Shoulder holster or holster shirt for M65 w/3" barrel?

Looking to carry my model 65 with a 3 " barrel (6 shot) under a light jacket or over sized shirt. I'm wondering how the holster shirts work or work for revolvers, versus a regulat holster. If shoulder holster is best, what make & model. I know side kick makes the 8300 verticle shoulder holster and the 7700 horizontal that should fit this gun??? thanks,

I bought a 5.11 concealed carry T shirt. It hangs in my closet. I guess you could call it a closet queen. . I have had my Model 36 3" fall out of the pocket when I bent over and it's difficult to access quickly. It is also very uncomfortable.

If you will wear a covering garment, a belt holster (regular or IWB) would probably work best. With a shoulder holster, sweeping the gun all the way across the body to get it drawn and aimed makes me nervous...

It's been my experience that, with the carry shirts I've tried, even with lightweight
guns, they want to pull down / droop / twist from the weight of the gun.

Is there a way to draw from a shoulder holster where you do not sweep everyone around you? I think I could do it. If you draw and keep the muzzle pointed down then raise the gun gangsta style then it wouldn't sweep and more than if it were IWB. I don't carry a shoulder holster but I do own one for my 1911. It sits in my closet next to my 5.11 CC T shirt.

Google "Belly Roll Draw" and modify to meet the shoulder holster requirements. Nick

Default Galco S1H-114

I recently acquired a Galco shoulder holster for my 3” Model 65 and I am EXTREAMLY happy with it.
http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG2.asp

For revolvers you need to buy it as component parts. The holster is the S1H-114. There are a couple choices for the harness and either speedloader OR speedstrip pouches. I added a 2X2X2 pouch also.

It takes practice to use a shoulder holster safely, but it is a tactical option. I do wear it under a summer shirt, tucked in, but different body types and style of dress will have different results.

PM me if you have further questions.

Frank

I'm a big fan of Galco. There are two different carry holsters, the vertical and horizontal. The vertical can be had as a system; for a four inch K-Frame, it's called the VHS104. Galco doesn't list a vertical for the three inch, but the S1H-114 (right hand, 115 for the southpaws) Frank mentioned will fit almost any barrel length as it's open ended. I tried the S1H horizontal for my four inch and the barrel simply sticks out too much, however, I would think this would be a perfect setup for the 3" K-frames. The nice thing is that you can order all pieces separately or in that one horizontal setup and mix and match later (that's what I did).

Also, as an alternative, you could order up that S1H with the half harness with belt clip. It's lightweight, less restrictive and cost effective, I use it with the vertical holster these days. It comes in R/L and black and brown. I do have the right hand brown and really like it. There are a lot of holster and shoulder makers out there, but I really like Galco, can't say enough good about their holsters.

Below is a 547 (4" K-frame) with VHS-104 system; it came with speedloader pouches also.

I might add I tried the 5.11 pouch shirt also. It was hot and restrictive and not too comfortable although my 547 carried well in it. I think a size larger than normal might work better. It's a "closet queen" like Will's.

I have three Uncle Mike's Side Kick vertical shoulder holsters. They are inexpensive, good quality and in my case "git-r-done". One of the holsters is for a 2 3/4 inch Ruger Speed Six. I am off and on a tractor quite a bit and they keep my guns out of the way. I think that I am one of the few guys that finds a shoulder holster more comfortable that a hip holster and for sure more comfortable that an inside the waist band holster. Whatever works, right?

Hi:
Since 1962 I have "Carried" strong side "On Duty/Off Duty". Lately I have been CCW IWB "Cross Draw". At my age comfort is a high priority. This method has a positive side also. Drawing while seated without "Telegraphing" by raising your shoulder is one. Perhaps this is "Cold" but in the "Real World" accessing my weapon is an "Emergency" and I am more concerned with Jimmy" than anyone that might be "Swept" by my weapon. If one is using the "Universal Cover Mode" (finger outside trigger guard until target is lined up and ready to fire) I can't see a big concern. On a qualification course the "Cross Draw" is positioned on the left end of the line (no issue of "Sweeping" the next shooter)

Google or search EBay for "Gould Goodrich B733-32" Suffix "LH" if you're a lefty like me.
Bought mine from Dale9396 on EBay @$42.

It's a high riding pancake with a thumb break made for a 2-1/2" K-Frame but my 2" M64 and 3"M65 both fit well enough. No, the ramped sight does not hang up at all.

Hi:
A "Cross Draw" should be carried at an angle. Some recommend a 60 degree angle

Holster shirts work best (when they work) with lightweight guns ... no way, no how is a 3" 65 going to be accommodated by a shirt holster.

For shoulder rigs, you have the horizontal vs. vertical carry, which is really personal preference. You'll have potentially less sweep if you carry your 65 nose down near your belt line (think Dirty Harry). The nose up models (think Steve McQueen in "Bullitt") are already sweeping everyone behind you. Lots of folks who have purchased shoulder holsters have done so because of the cool factor, and that doesn't usually work out too well. Listen to the forum members (LEOs, etc.) who can offer realistic opinions of the pros and cons of shoulder carry. They have been doing it for lengthy careers ...

I've been carrying a J-frame in an Andrews Leather shoulder rig with offset speed loaders for years. It is an amazing rig, and beautifully crafted. I also have a Ken Null model, exclusively for J-frame. I very much enjoy shoulder carry, as it fits my body type and chosen revolver extremely well.

Galco makes a very popular shoulder holster, and Ray at Lobo Leather can help you out too. Ray is highly respected and recommended on this forum.

Exactly what I was going to post. Excellent rest of post also.

I will add that shoulder holster is not my favorite carry and I only wear one rarily-but like anything else has its advantages.

The biggest pro for me is that I find them very comfortable while long drives/rides. I have had good luck with Galco also.
