New 642-1 pro series cut for moonclips
It finally happened.
I bought my FIRST brand new S&W. It is the 642-1 pro series, cut for moonclips.
I predict it will be the first of several!
Haven't even shot it yet. But I was psyched to finally find one - and at a good price to boot!
Sorry for the not-so-great pic...I'll take better ones when I get some daylight.

It's a nice option, huh?
I have greatly improved my reload time with the 640 pro compared to speedloaders in a 638 I used to have.

I think this is the best defensive J-frame going. I'm envious. Enjoy...

I have the 640 Pro and love it. I also think it's the best thing SW has produced in a SD revolver in a while...and for us who care...no lock!
Good luck. You will like it.
Here it is with Combats and a CT look.. lots of grip (stock) options. It came with the banana grip.

I carry a 442 Pro and wish someone would make a good holder for the moonclips. It is carried with the moonclip in it but I use a regular speedloader or a stip for reloads if needed. Do love the package though. Even got one of those handy dandy reloaders that either unload or load the moonclips in seconds..to big to carry around but neat for range use..all5x

.38 Special, like any 642. Moon clips are small, round metal clips that hold the rounds and allow the shooter to load (and unload) all five shots simultaneously. Think of them as being like magazines but for revolvers. The cylinder needs a special cut to accept them.

Thanks, I haven't shot it yet.
I got to looking at it closer and noticed that the crane does not fit quite flush.
Here's a pic. What do you all think? Is this normal? I spoke to s&w customer service and sent them this pic. I think they're going to send a prepaid label. I'm thinking the crane should be flush both against the frame (below the forcing cone) and the side (against the frame).
I was so busy checking out the lock up, timing, barrel cant...silly me didn't catch this gap in the store. What the heck, I would have bought it anyway. I know they'll fix it if it needs anything.

Actually, the 642 is chambered only for .38 Special and is +P rated.
A 642 cut for moon clips can be used with, or without, the moonclips. If you look at the first pic I posted you can make out the recessed face on the cylinder. But, yea, it's strictly a .38 special.

I misread the post..I thought the question on moon clips referenced my 640 pro I had posted. I know the 642 is only chambered for .38 specials...I own several variants..they are great CCWs.

Sorry about that; I should have just thought to myself; "I know what ya meant...". Didn't mean to be a stickler.
