Goncalo Alves Grips K, L or N frame?
Gang,
How can one tell the difference between the Goncalo Alves Combat square butt grips from the 80's, K, L or N? I have two sets purported to be for K & L frames and both sit proud at the top on my Model 586 no dash. Just above the web of your hand. I always heard the N frame had the same grip, just a meatier frame/cylinder. I just saw some "N" Goncolo's on eBay that said they were N frame. They look just like the one's I have. Anyone have any measurements? - hutch

Jay, if you have the opposite of Gorenut's picture, then you have N-frame grips on your L-frame 586. K and L frames are the same....medium frames, N frames are ......large frames.

K, L & N frame grips
TX guys - they must be N frame combat grips. The other set I bought on eBay were advertised L & K frame combat grips but fit same way, proud at the top. Notice in Gorenut's pic, that there is more frame bulk behind the trigger on the N frame. So the low grip may be the same on L, K & N, but not at top eh?
Gonna try these on my 13-2 and see if they fit. Stand by . . . .
Think I know the answer. I likely now have two sets of Goncolo Alves combat grips for N frame and no N. HA! - hutch

N frame combat grips are harder to find than the K frame variety.
Post what you have in the sell/trade section here and I'll bet you can swap them.

L, K & N Frame combat grips
Steamloco & Gorenut:
. . . just checked and NOPE - neither of these beautiful combat magnum grips sets fit properly on the 13-2 L frame either. So looks like I must have 2 sets of N frame combat grips. One set perfect, the other 98%. Woe is me.
Gonna see if gore nut wants to trade for the one's in the pic above that don't fit his N frame. Separate reply. - hutch

Hey Gorenut,
Note my responses below, but wanted to reply specifically to you. Did you take a pair of K/L grips off something else to put on your N frame for this pic, or do you have K/L grips that don't quite fit your N frame? Since it looks like I have 2 pairs of N frame grips I can't use, you wanna trade for a set? I'm told the N combat grips are harder to find, but if yours are good one's I'll trade straight up. I'll send you picks of the grips dated July 2, 1984 if you want. Lemmeknow.

Nick,
I have 2 sets. The set on the 586 no dash I just bought are absolutely perfect, like brand new, date 6 mo after the pistol manufacture date. That's why I thought they could be original equipment. I have another set that I paid $50 buck for on eBay for my 686, but it's a round butt and I didn't notice that in the guys auction. My bad, but they turn out to be N frame! They aren't perfect, but not bad. I'll send pic's to your email account and you can make me an offer. 10-4? - hutch
