Lately I find myself carrying my 3" Smith 66 more and more. The only downside to it is weight for its size. I've been thinking lately about a Smith 386 that it may have some of the characteristics that I like about the 66 only lighter. Problem is, I've never fired one and the range does not have one for rental. I have fired a 340PD with 125gr. full magnum loads and after a cylinder full, I was done. I know it's a J-frame and lighter, but it has me wondering about the recoil on a 386. So does anyone have one and how are they?

Thanks in advance.

I posted this in your thread on SigForum, but it may be interesting to folks here too:

I was in the same boat as you-I love shooting magnum out of my 65. So I got a 3" (386SC) for something lighter to carry and an extra shot. It is not super fun to shoot. Its not at bad as a J-frame AirLite but I limit myself to reduced power loads like the Rem Golden Saber.

Here is an old pic:

I much prefer shooting the 65:

I stumbled into a 3" mountain lite 386 and sold my 21/2" 66. One extra round and less weight. Shot it off hand 2 cyl's of 357 and it didn't seem too bad to shoot. Shooting at a hanging bowling pin at 50 yds and hit it a few times. Nice gun, Larry
