After testing both the Winchester PDX1 and the Federal 000 Buck load I prefer the latter. The small shot in the PDX1 load opens up way to quick whereas the Federal load stays tight past 30 feet.

I also like the Federal Premium Personal Defense Ammunition 410 Bore 2-1/2" 000 Buckshot. The Federal had a tighter pattern, I would not want to be on the receiving end of it.

Having watched a lot of people with these guns and various loads on the range, I's like to comment on a couple of things: range to target and shooting ability (or lack of).
At arms length, any of the loads are effective, but even at a few yards, the light shot spreader loads essentially guarantee that some of the shot will miss as they spread, so the heavier shot that group well are superior at anything but contact range.
Second, quite a few are expecting that having shot instead of a bullet will make up for poor shooting, but it won't. A miss is still a miss. I have learned to set up a big target at no more than 5 steps for them until we see if they have any idea how to hold and shoot the gun.

I would agree that Federal Premium 000 buckshot is a better choice, but I also suggest you practice, practice, practice shooting .45LC or .45ACP until you are comfortable, as that would be better still. Shot shells are probably better suited for varmint control.
I've shot long guns (mostly shotguns but also .22 rifles) for 45 years or so, but the Governor is my first handgun. I've shot fewer than 50 rounds of .45LC so far, but am already getting pretty comfortable at SD/HD distances.

Federal 000Buck is outstanding. Tennis ball size shot pattern at 10 yards. I use Winchester 45lc Silvertips and Federal 000buck every other round in my cylinder.
I have a box of PDX1 and have not tested them yet but either way its a **** storm of lead that should put the smack down on anyone foolish enough to mess with you.

I have toyed with the idea of loading my Judge with two of the options. I considered a couple 45long colt rounds and a couple of the PDX1 rounds. Also considered the buck shot (as a warning?) followed by a couple PDX1s and a couple 45 long colt. I know some are going to respond with the "load only lethal shots" etc.. In the end its your decision made by your own personal preferences.

Warning? 000buck pellets are about the diameter of a .38 special/.357 bullet.

I agree with the Federal 000. Having shot various targets at several distances, the small shot in the PDX round spreads rapidly. I really don't understand why they put it in there to begin with. Considering with the Fed. 000 buck you get basically three .38 bullets per trigger pull, that's hard to beat.

Well, it's a pretty serious warning.

Bird shot is for the birds. Now I know that we have mentioned only 000 buck here, but the idea of loading a combination of loads in the cylinder is a really bad idea. Might give the plaintiffs lawyer in the subsequent civil case a foot in the door-to your assets.
Mixing loads in cylinders or magazines is such a bad idea that every LE agency I know of prohibits it. Where I work it will get you a 5 day suspension, no explanations accepted.
If you are going to just try to "wound" the BG, you should not be using a lethal weapon, period. The potential civil liability just screams for a shyster, and before all the lawyers on the board jump on me-I am a brother-in law, just one with a badge and a gun that I try to shoot as lethally as possible, because that is what the weapon is for.
