If S&W made .75 magnum revolver I think it would be one of the most unique collectors items. I know most people would not be able to fire it but still it would be something special.

Might be expensive to shoot with $200/round destructive device tax.

Unless the cartridges are explosive, there is no NFA tax. The .750 caliber gun would be the destructive device requiring the $200.00 tax.

Still, the tax implications would be way down a long list of reasons why a .750 magnum revolver would not be a good idea.

I thought if it is a sporting gun there is no $200 tax. Just like 600 or 700 nitro express, I'm not an expert but I don't think there is any tax required on those guns.

Folks

If I am remebering correctly, the GCA of 1968 forbids manufacturing of revolvers/pistols that have a bore diameter greater than .500.

That reminds me of that Taurus revolver they unveiled at shot show that was 28 gauge.

But I've heard mixed opinions of what ATF said about it. Originally they said it was against regs, but later I thought they had a way around it. Kinda like how they market the Mares Leg as a pistol instead of a short barreled rifle.

But with that said, if s&w made it, I'd buy one (or 2)

Well, if they could squeak it legally, 12 gauge is .73 caliber.

Like a mega-governor, maybe call it the President?

Close, ATF has a 1/2" test "gauge" (for lack of a better word). If it falls through the barrel it is a Title II DD, if it does not then it is a Title I handgun.

The first Desert Eagle 50s failed the test since the polygonal rifling allowed the gauge to drop through. I forgot exactly how IMI changed the barrel to prevent the gauge from falling through

It would not have been against any regs. It might have been a Title II firearm instead of a Title I but there is no Federal law banning the manufacture of a 28 gauge revolver

If they manufacture it with a smooth bore, it becomes an AOW under the NFA Title II and would be subject to a $5 transfer tax on Form 4 instead of no tax on the usual 4473.

I would bet that Taurus is trying to get it classified as Title I so it transfers tax free

The Mares leg is a pistol, no rifle stock was ever attached to the receiver. To be a rifle, it has to have a rifle stock. Once a rifle always a rifle. If you cut down a rifle stock you have a short barreled rifle.

That would be one seriously large and massively heavy revolver. If loaded to the same levels as the .500 is currently, pretty violent recoil. Just stating the obvious here.

I think I'd pass on buying such a device if it were ever produced which I seriously doubt. Don

Sorry, I forgot the segment of the membership who takes everything as serious and should have added one of those indicators known as a smilie

Information that is wrong and misleading to other Forum members that are already confused over the GCA and NFA does not become a joke if you put a smiley on it. It is just wrong information

You made a mistake, perhaps mis-remembered a fact or maybe mis-heard that fact in the first place. Big deal we all make mistakes.

And you really believe the op was serious too I suppose.

I saw at lgs 600 nitro express rifle and it did not require any 200 tax. Apparently it depends on if it is for hunting/sporting porpoise.
