Tired of picking up brass at the range and thought I would like to have a newer modern revolver in a shorter than 6" barrel length. Watched a few reviews of the S&W 686-P, 586, 627, and TRR8/R8 on YouTube and been cruising the usual for-sale boards on the web.

Anyway, to make a long story short I low balled the pistol below on GB and was surprised when I received the email that I won the bid! It is used and came with the original case, paperwork, moon clips and lock. The revolver didn't show well and it was obvious it need a good cleaning. Received the R8, gave it a thorough cleaning, and did a little embellishment with the paint brush and there you have it!

Wasn't going to leave the top rail on the pistol but got a good deal on a Burris Reflex site and thought I'd give it a try since all my other toys have the mechanical sights. Below are a few pictures of the cleaned up R8 and my first target at the range at 25 yards after sighting in the Burris. Pistol shot outstanding and am quite pleased with my purchase!!!

Had a few minor issues with the pistol... for one, the barrel shroud was loose and I was able to move it right and left about 1/32". Second issue was that the more I shot, the occurrence of light primer strikes would occur. When the round was placed in a buds 627, the rounds would go off without a problem. Yes, I checked the hammer spring screw and it was tight.

Now for the GREAT part in terms of the S&W warrantee... When I called S&W, they said that they would be glad to take a look at the pistol and repair it as needed! They sent me a FedEx shipping label, I boxed it up, and off it went!!! Have other toys to play with but looking forward to getting it back.

All cleaned up:

How did you get the red paint in the logo? Mine didn't come that way. It looks cool. I would like to put it on mine.

"A fine brush and a steady hand." was one answer I was given. Web search for color filling. There are several videos and documents showing different techniques.

They way I do it is as follows:

1) Using alcohol on a paper towel, liberally wipe off the surface you want to paint and let dry. Make sure you get into the groves of the lettering where any oil, grease, and/or silicone may reside.

2) Let dry for 1 or 2 minutes

3) Using automotive touch-up paint of the color desired, use a small brush to fill in the groves making up the lettering. Don't worry about getting paint outside the grooves. Let is dry for about 1 minute for the paint to begin to dry.

4) Take a paper towel sheet and fold it into squares (2 times) until you have a nice square 1/4 the original size.

5) Now this is where a little finesse is needed... apply alcohol to a spot on the paper towel so it is damp (not soaked) and using the flat part of the paper towel surface, gently wipe the excess paint from the flat surface of the gun. You cannot press the paper towel on the surface since it will remove the paint from the paint deposited in the grooves.

I usually do one swipe with the paper towel sheet and then repeat #5 above in a new spot on the paper towel. It may take me a few times to get the excess paint off. If you don't use a new spot on the paper towel sheet, the paint you just removed from the surface will smear onto the surface you just wiped off!

On the R8, the M&P logo was the most difficult perform and took me a few tries.

Let us know how you make out!

Let us know how it goes when you get her back. I've had good luck with S&W warranty work the few times I've needed it.

Will do... it arrived at S&W on the 24th so I will give them a call if I don't hear anything by the end of next week. My Bud has sent 2 revolvers to S&W and turn around has been about 1 week in the past; however, that was over 1 year ago.

R8 arrived safe and sound from S&W with a copy of the work order indicating the barrel shroud was tightened and the firing pin was replaced. S&W provided 1 week turnaround which was outstanding!!!

To exceed their customer's expectations, they also changed the discolored screw on the side plate and the large grip screw.

From this end they did terrific!!! Way to go
S&W!

Range report... R8 performed perfectly with 100+ rounds sent down range today. Had to re-zero the Burris red dot and that was it. No light primer strikes and accuracy was outstanding.

Win!!!
